Welcome to the MSE forums vanfoxtele.
Why not see if they'll let you have the current £29.99 deal on each? It appears they've at last realised that they made an error in the wording and it doesn't restrict the offer to those 'moving from cable'. However, as is to be expected, it's not being offered unless people ask for it - as those on here WILL!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
No, these are residential lines, we're an extended family, each with our own service.
Yes, I read a lot of the threads, which took me to the £30 offer, yippee.
After speaking to COT they have agreed to move all three lines for £30 each.
Result, I think!0 -
Just a quick note, if anyone is thinking of having a phone line and then sky, speak to sky first, i couldnt afford the £125 for bt when moved into our house (rented not owned), so told sky to install without phone line, cost £20 installation extra, even though he only made a 10 second phone call to give some bird details (not complaining though, just saying). However, when i was ordering sky, told them i couldnt afford the £125, they said if I had paid they would reimburse £120, therefore £5 to install a phone line, £30 to install sky, not bad really, wish i had waited and saved the cash to pay bt, then got it back from sky!
Just a thought for anyone else!!0 -
ok, just phoned bt, took details etc... mentioned i want a new connection with regards to notice 21/08, that is a reduction of £95 on a £124.99 install over a 18 month contract. THe guy on the phone said, oh, i have heard of the half price but not this, I need a new install, ill look at that. Then put me through to customer something. told them i want a new install with regards to this notice. asked if i had been offered this, said yes, (i hadnt, but thought what the hell, if thats what they want to hear), did credit check, (need to pay £50 deposit cos of crap credit history, damn loans and credit cards at 18!!)
never once mentioned anything about cable customer, asked if i wanted internet, said no not yet, prob gonna go with sky internet. Gave me order ref, new phone number, and engineer dat and 5 hour time slot. On phone for 15 mins!
Genius
Have spent months trying to get round the £125 install, agree that for what you are getting it is very good price, but i dont have that kind of money in the bank very often, then when i do, i stumble upon this!
Thankyou very much!!0 -
Can anyone confirm whether they were able to get on a 12 months contract instead of 18?? I'm moving into a new property for a 12months contract and really do not want to get tied down to a 18months contract and really do not want to pay 124.99 setup fee. :eek:0

If you want the 12 months contract then expect to pay the £124.99.
The offer of £29.99 connection is only available to 18 month contract customers0 -
I'm with others on this. In this case BT is quite right to charge such a fee.
Why is it that you can afford a new house with all the 'fees' that attracts, but view payment for a telephone line too much?
can anyone tell me the cheapest way to get a new phone line installed please?... I too refuse to pay BT'S prices!!!!... Help0 -
There really is no cheap way... unless you can get one of the offers that BT seem to be offering to certain customers. I myself wanted a new line in the flat I am moving into in a couple of weeks, but have now decided against it and have opted for mobile broadband with my mobile provider. I only needed a landline for that really, I can use my mobile for everything else.
Other options you could try are Virgin or some other provider, I know PlusNet charge £110 and Madasafish £115 if my memory serves me correctly.0 -
BT are offering to install new lines for £29.99 until the end of June 2008 - as long as you agree to an 18 month contract with them.
Full details are here but it basically says:
