"It seems ridiculous one company can old consumers to ransom by offering an 12 month minimum contract. Monopoly?"
Most telecoms companys ties you in. There's only one i know who doesnt0 -
Having recieved my first bill from BT, I have been charged £4.50 for non direc debit payment.
However, I pay by monthly payment plan, and pay £20 per month towards the bill, and it does clearly state on the back of my bill
"if you do not pay by direct debit OR Monthly Payment Plan there is a fee from BT Payment Services Ltd, a BT Group company, for processing your payments"
So why then, if I am paying by monthly payment plan (and have made 2 x £20 payments already and total bill is only £33) am I being charged this £4.50 processing fee?
If anyone can enlighten me, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.0 -
Hi Thanks to op for this thread,I only found out about this special offer through this website. Today I spoke to 3 bt employees and not one mentioned this half price connection offer (I am moving to a new address soon )so you can imagine how elated I was when I came on here and found this information. I went back to them and quoted the bt notice number 44/07 and got the discount no problem but if I hadn't mentioned it they would have been happy for me to pay the full connection charge. They still make you pay up front though and "credit" your account with £62.50 and I won't be paying direct debit until this has been used up. thanks again to eveyone. shrewdal :T
Erm, anyone read the small print of the wording of that clause?

hello, dont know how relevant this is,but thought i should let u all know that i have just rang BT to reactivate my phone line and was told that it would cost 125 quid. having already arranged my sky installation i then rang sky back to 'cancel' my installation due to the fact that i wasn't happy paying BT 125quid.i was then told that i could claim the full amount back from sky by means of a claim form. the £125 will be credited to my sky a/c and therefore i will be in credit with sky for a few months or so. therefore i have got the reactivation done for free-courtesy of sky.
But I do like the sounds of that!! Moving house soon so I will ring Sky to request the move process is started then ring back a couple of days later to advise I need to cancel as BT want to charge me £125 for the landline connection. I rang BT yesterday regarding a move and the current owner of the house that I am moving into has the phone with Virgin Media cable and that the BT line has not been in use for nearly 5 years so I am therefore liable for the £125 reconnection fee. Although, I am wary of any company promising to pay you when you talk to them over the phone. Has anyone actually had their Sky account credited £125 yet?0 -

But there's no restriction on opting for a CPS calls provider immediately the line is live (obviously, the recommendation is to opt for BT Together Option 1 if that's your intention).
Though dont forget you need to do 10 calls a month through BT.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

BT seem to be having more problems than normal these days as the regulator has effectively forced them to use new IT systems that they are having trouble with and have not yet fully rolled out.
There have been reports that if you call Sky and tell them that you want their service - but do not currently have a BT line, that they will refund the £125 connection charge..
Regards
Sunil
Thanks Sunil. Just a quick update...I called SKY, and asked them directly if there is a rebate program for people who have to pay the BT connection fee. Indeed, there is.....as the woman said to me, "people just have to ask for the rebate". Apparently, it will appear in the form of a credit on my first SKY bill. And FYI, SKY is having a promo on their Sky+ box....I only paid £49!0 -

Is this rebate that Sky offer for new customers only? Are you having your Sky installed as a new customer having just signed up to a new 12 month contract and about to move to a new property or are you moving to the new property whilst still in your 12 month contract? I am on hold to Sky as we speak now and the first customer services operator has just advised me that this is for new customers. I asked her to check this and she is putting me through to sales so I can ask them.0
