If you move into a rented flat and sign an 18 month contract with BT if after six months you move to another rented flat can you carry the BT contract over to the new flat or do you have to start a brand new contract ?0

But, as the 12 month renewable contract is not available to those, like them, taking advantage of the current free installation offer, the suggestion stands.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

And that's the point I was making.
The 12 month renewable contract that would normally give you free evening calls is not available with the free installation, so you either have to pay £2.95 a month for it, or pay for those calls some other way.0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums maxter.
You were told rubbish by, it appears, yet another ill-informed (or worse) BT advisor. You can get the free connection. Ring again and ask for the COT (Customer Options Team). The 18 month contract (for line rental) would be necessary though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi thanks for that. No. i really didnt explain myself that well - sorry.
The BT guy said i could have the free connection.
I was just miffed how a BT line working as of 3 weeks ago now costs £122.50 to be reactivated.
Should have just said that in the first place. lol
Thanks for the welcome0 -

Its like going on holiday then moaning about the cost of a passport.
A £125 quid to get a working phone line installed in you house for the rest of your homes life which is also maintained and worked on if necessary is in my opinion a good return.
are you joking me? i cannot get a phone line or broadband due to this robbery 125 for a phone line incase you havent noticed we are in a recession so people are skint to start and more people are now renting homes and when you rent a house its usually on a 6 month lease so that means i would have to pay 125 every 6 months if my lease does not get renewed use your head.0 -
Reading this forum thread has filled me with dread.
I'm moving whilst still in contract (about 6 months for line rental and 12 for Broadband). Just discovered that the apartment I am moving into has a Tiscali line on their LLU/MPF product.
After getting through to BT (and being hung up on for my first attempt), I found that they are charging me the full £120+ fee for a new line.
I have a question.
1. Why? There is a line going into the property, why charge the full installation amount. All that is needed is for an engineer to go to the exchange and swap me from Tiscali to BT? Does it really cost £120+ to re-start a stopped line?
This is taken from the BT Openreach pricing site and since BT and Openreach are now seperate entities, I can only assume this is what most of the cost is because of (now that BT have to actually pay too)?
MPF Connection Charge Stopped Line Provide 02/03/2007 40.49
MPF Connection charge – New Provide Standard Note 16 15/12/2005 31/08/2009 99.95
I understand that any business has to make money and can't absorb all costs and I'm perfectly prepared to pay a fair amount but why charge me the full whack and make a profit off me, just because I have to move?
I tried explaining this, but didnt get anywhere. I'll keep trying, but I'm not holding my breath! Wish me luck0 -

Erm, did you actually check the date on that post? Way back in June 20060 -
Hi Guys!
Little help please! Keeping it brief, Im moving house soon and want to switch my BT line over. Currently no line at new property so will have to pay £122.50 to BT for reconnection. Have tried the free connection on an 18 month contract link, but do not qualify as I am currently on a 12 month eve and w/end contract which expires on 1 Mar 10. I can cancel this contract and take advantage of the free connection offer, but I will get charged £7.50 for every month left to run on the 12 month contract (about £75. Anyone seen this in T & C's?). I know this will still give me a net gain of about £50, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on how to get round this with the minimum loss??
Thanks all!!!0
