If it's £59 with an 18 month min contract how is that better than an 18 month min contract with BT at £29 ?

    Hello,

I'm no good with bills but was very happy to find the no connection fee BT offer at the moment saving the 125, which you cant have any other offer with i.e free weekends and evening calls. This was meant to be connected today but yesterday I got a call saying the house already had a line and could be connected remotley, which I had told them already!!!!

So my question is do you think I have the right to take up one of the offers as they didn't give me my free 125 connection offer?

    Bad with bills

I once had BT, well OK Openreach come to my house after I complained to my ISP about problems with my internet.

Is was intermittent and worked OK when they came of course.

Anyway to cut a long story short my ISP sent me a bill which was the Openreach engineer visit charge plus a little bit on top admin fee, cos they said they couldn't find a fault outside so it must be my equipment inside which it wasn't and they never even checked my router and internal wiring anyway.
I refused to pay and successfully argued with my ISP who argued with Openreach and the charge was dropped.

Shortly after I cancelled my internet with my ISP who were a very good ISP but nevertheless I'd had enough and then cancelled my landline with BT.

They keep sending me mailshots to come back to BT but I have no intention of doing so, I really want nothing more to do with them.

Hey guys, my 6th month payment is due on the 12th and when i first got my line i was told i would get it back after 6th months, is there any way i can get it credited back to that card it was paid with? As im on bt basic and only pay 13.50 a quarter and want to get rid of the line after my 12 months is up as i dont use it, so a £50 credit to my bt account wont really be very helpfull and i could do with the money back.

    Thanks
    J

    Hello,
I'll start at the beginning, We're moving house again, the last time we moved house we contacted BT and informed them of our move date, our phone line was disconnected three weeks early and eventually reconected, to our old house, two days after we had moved out. Not having a phone line at that time made it very hard to organise our move (contacting gas, electric ect). This time we're moving we informed BT of the move date and explianed what had happened before, we recieved assurances that this would not happen again. It did, again we're disconected three weeks early. Although this issue is being resolved as I type it will be at least 48 hours from now before anything happens.

This isn't the reason I'm writing though, I just wanted you to understand why I'm dissatisfied with BT.
As I said before we're moving house. The house we're moving into has a BT line installed but not activated I have also done some research and found that for me it will be cheaper to get my phone and broadband from my T.V. supplier, but here's the issue. For me to get the broadband deal I want, I need to take out thier phone package as well (which I want to do any way), but thier phone package requires an active BT line to take over, for me to get an active line I have to take out a 12 month contract with BT (which I don't want at all) and as soon as I change service provider this will cancel the BT contract costing a cancelation fee of £7.50 for each month left of the contract a total of £90!!!
Is there any way around this or have BT got me over the proverbial barrel?
I understand that there is some work invoved at the exchange to activate a number but does it really equate to £90 worth or a 12 month contract?
    Thanks
    Joss

Are there alterantives, namely the Post Office in order to avoid the astronomical charge..once the 18 month offer is up?

Or do the Post Office slam a charge on you to?

    Hi 37monkey

I appreciate you are unhappy if you have had problems with moving home. I hope this is sorted, if not drop me your BT phone number, account number ande email address to my PM and I'll see whats what. Regarding the 12 month contract this is the minimum period for a new BT line or a BT line you take over as per the terms and conditions on https://www.bt.com and there is no way round this.

    Cheers

I've just had a quick look at the post office and by the looks of it I would be in a contract with them, I want to start using Sky as soon as I move (they have free calls to Ireland inc). I'll probably Just pay the £90 as I'm that p***ed at bt at the moment

That'd be a real 'cut off the nose to spite the face' action and not in any way money-saving - how many calls to Ireland could you make for £90?

In any case, you can sign up for Sky Talk Unlimited (£5 per month) as a CPS service and benefit from the free calls without having to breach your contract with BT. The drawback is Sky's expensive 0845 and 0870 calls but using 18185 for those calls will at allow you to negate that.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    ...........
You're right about cutting off my nose, but if thats the only way I can choose my service provider when I want to not when BT says I'm allowed to then that's what I'll do. At the moment we spend between £5 and £10 a month with 1899 calling Ireland as we have family living there.
If I pay my line rental to Sky as well I get £5 a month off the bband and thier line rental is less than BT.
and thanks I will use 18185
    ;)
