    Not quite true.

"If the customer decides to end the contract within the 18 month minimum term, they will incur a single charge of £7.50 (on the Unlimited Weekend and Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00 (on the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of the minimum term."

    So a maximum of £127.50 or £136.00

Hi... this is my first post... been stalking for a while now.

Am in the process of buying a new build and was looking for BT alternatives.

This deal did look appealing, but then i saw this clause......

"Customers must remain on their chosen Calling Plan for 18 months from the date of purchase, and must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls during every three month period, or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly."

I know this equates to only 3 calls a week, however I only have the phone for broadband.... has anyone had any dealings with talk talk? Their connection fee is about £60

    Thanks

Be very careful if you are thinking of migrating over to BT from Virgin Media. This deal is not as good as it sounds, the cost of broadband sounds appealing to start with, but remember the B/B goes up after 3 months.I worked out i would be £7.50 worse off. You are tied 18 MONTHS. I currently pay £15.50 for phone and 2 meg B/B soon to be upgraded to 10 meg this is guarenteed till november (then a £3 increase after that)
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow

Nothing in the "free" connection deal ties you to BT Broadband, you can use any broadband supplier that your exchange supports.

So you sign for 18 months and then if you want free weekday evening calls you sign for a further 12 months and after 12 months it's renewed automatically for a further 12 months as it's a rolling 12 month contract.

Sounds like your signing your life away to the devil.

I'm so glad I no longer deal with these people.

FannyHill, I love your name, we used to have a Hill in school called that ;)

I cant stand BT either. They charge be £200 pound for connecting my phone line, and signed me up to contracts I never agreed to. After alot of 'negotiations' I changed to Talk Talk.
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:

As Altarf states, if you go with BT as a phone provider you DON'T have to use them as a broadband provider too. In fact your choice of different companies widens considerably. The price BT charge for broadband is very expensive, so worth shopping around IMHO.

That said - the deal you have at the moment (£15.50 per month broadband and phone) is very competitive.

I was in a dispute with BT over a connection charge, was told I didn't have to pay one but then they forced me to pay one. They offered £70 towards it and I had to pay the rest. However this whole process took 10 months.

I then learnt I had to move, fearing I had to pay another charge I phoned the Home Movers to hear the dreadful news. However I was read full terms & conditions this time and told if I sign up to a 12 month contract I wouldn't have to pay a connection charge.

Hi iscrimger! I have read your post about BT connection charges and I am concerned about what you have said. Obviously without your details it is difficult for me to make a judgement on this. Send me your details and I will happily check this out.

Just thought I would share my experience on this matter.

I recently moved to a rented property which had a disconnected phone line (due to the previous tenants having talktalk), and so had to face the dreaded £122.50 reconnection charge. Having done some research on if it was possible to avoid this, the only glimmer of hope seemed to be from the link provided by Altarf in a previous post.

A few bits of info for others looking to take advantage of this offer which expires on 30th June 09:

    1) BT will not tell you about the offer, even if you ask them outright if there is any way to avoid or reduce the connection charge. They said that if a reconnection was needed there was no way to avoid paying the reconnection fee. Knowing about the above offer, I challenged them that what they were saying was untrue but their response was that it was BT policy to not mention it until the customer mentions it to them. So don't believe everything they tell you!

    2) You have to sign up for an 18th month contract at a higher than normal rate. You only get the rate listed in the offer if you sign up to paperless billing, which has to be done separately once the line is reconnected to save £1.25 a month.

    3) For each option, the offer saves you over the 18 months:
    Unlimited wkend: £122.50
    Unlimited eve & wkend: £69.40
    Unlimited anytime: £104.50
Obviously, a disadvantage is being committed contractually to an extra 6 months.

    4) Finally, regarding the clause "Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly", the calls can be as short as you like. The only issue is remembering to make those calls if it is not your intention to use the line for a phone.

Hopefully these bits of info will be useful to anyone else also needing to reconnect.

    Hello,

We've just moved in to a place but its not a new build. Should we still have to pay a connection charge as BT have said we need to. But surely the line is still there?

The previous owners used Virgin media.

    Cheers,

I just moved into a rented property where the previous tenants who moved out a week ago DID have a phone.
I rang up BT and find out I have to pay a £125 connection fee. I argued a lot and threatened to go to sky which at first I did not intend to do. However sky offered the connection fee for £25 with £36 a month for unlimited ADSL phone + HD variety pack.

How the hell BT are still in business with this terrible retail service is beyond me.
