  • same here..:-( i just saw this too:-( i just signed up already signed up to southern electric, nocontract, but they connected the line with no charges. I really want to go on sky though. Would they pay for theconnection fee to BT if i took out a good tv package with them?

Sorry sunnyboyjim.... are you saying that Southern Electric connected your line (what BT charge £120 ish for) for nothing and you don't have to have a minimum contract with them either?!?!?
  • we moved into our place in august, it's 3 yrs old but the previous tennants didn't activate the phone line. BT quoted us £125 to connect the phone line (which had been pre-installed when the flats were built), landlord said he'd pay 50% so we said we'd go for it

phoned back 30mins later afer finding tiscalli install for £30 (have to take contract with them though)

when i spoke to the bt lady and explained, she said they could cancel the installation i'd asked for at no charge but also said since 'you're leaving us we can match the £30 quote' ! she said they end up doing it all the time

it's an idea to try it now if anyone fancies it?

i ended up going with tiscali cuz the internet was cheaper..

big mistake but thats another story lol
  • My Grandpa's just moved house and needs to get connected to BT. There is no phone line running into the house from the pole, it looks like it's been removed after being broken by trees by the previous owners as there was a pile of wire at the bottom of the pole. Since it's a from scratch installation is there no way of getting it a bit cheaper than the £120 price?

He's currently a BT customer at his old house although will need to change his number as it's another area code.

When we moved in here about 6 years ago BT were doing free reconnection from memory, most of that installation had to be done again and didn't cost anything.

    Thanks.

I would advise anyone if at all possible to go with any other company than BT. They incorrectly charged me £125 back in December 2007, then credited it back in March 2008, then INCORRECTLY took it out of my bank by direct debit again in May 2008. They still owe me this money and I am fighting to get it back, they also incorrectly cut me off recently for 2 months. My letter of complaint is now at 10 pages of A4 and I use a small font, I have the names of 50 people I have spoken to at BT and yet surprise surprise still not sorted out!

Just made the mistake of checking my bank account and can confirm BT have taken out my latest monthly direct debit incorrectly for the third time. Should have been £12.50 and took £72.50, I could laugh but it's just not funny anymore :-(
  • Have you had a bill from BT for the £72.50?

If not then this breaks the direct debit guarantee and you can claim against it to get your money back...

If you have had a bill for that amount then you should have realised it was wrong when you got it and phoned them straight away and they should have adjusted it before the disputed amount got taken out.

  • I have recently (Monday) had my line connected, on Tuesday I was informed by my work that I was being relocated to Norway for 2 years, no problem there, I phoned BT and asked them if I could terminate the contract as I had not even used the phone, I would pay for the connection as I realise the engineer's time had to be paid for, but was told that I would have to pay £204 to cancel the contract, and they refuse to be budged on the matter. How can that be justified?
  • The same way they justified my case. Told me I wouldn't have a connection charge. Charged me one. I disputed it. They agreed and removed it. Then they decided to put it on and not remove it. It's almost a year since I got connected and all they offered was a small amount off the charge and told me I could pay it up.

So I did. And guess what? I got charged for making additional payments!!!! It works out the whole process has actually cost me £100 more. So that's £224.99 I've paid just to get connected!! They're a farce!

    Hi all,

My parents are with Virgin and received a letter from BT yesterday, saying if they come back to BT they will save £122.50 on connection fee with an 18 month contract.

You will receive inclusive unlimited UK weekend calls and free calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers at weekends in the £11.25 monthly line rental. This offer is available until 30/06/2009.

Call 0800 100444 and quote 'save on connection'. Lines open Mon-Fri 8am-9pm, Sat 8am-8pm and Sun 9am-6pm.

I just moved into a new flat and already got the previous deal with the £29.36 connection fee. This sounds like an even better offer! No mention of the minimum calls to make every month in the letter, though they might state otherwise over the phone.

Again, even if you're a new BT customer (like me) I'm sure you can get the deal if you ask. :D
  • An 18 month ROLLING contract perchance?
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??

Remember BT are only interested in doing what's best for them.Helping the customer has never been high on their agenda.
If it wasn't for the fact that many people need the landline for their internet they would be losing far more customers than they already are losing and I'm sure that's is already substantial.

I'd love to know how many they've lost in the last five years ?

I cancelled my landline with them in Jan of last year as I'd had enough.

If I had to go back to a landline I think I'd consider the Post Office service
(although some of their customer service reviews are a bit iffy).

By the way what is a BT rolling contract ?
