Ive subscribed to this thread for useful advice on BT connection charges. Bickering like children does not help anyone, and if you want to persist you should take it outside (of the forum)
Espresso - You should try and understand how the written word works as well. You dont know if something is boring and not relevant UNTIL you have read it! and wasted your time as there is no useful information!!0 -

When incorrect information is posted, it is right that it should be challenged or corrected by those more knowledgeable, as that is helpful to other readers!
You should learn how to make use of the Ignore List feature on this forum, if certain posters bore you.

the statement (the changes do not affect your service or any part of you original agreement with BT._
means that the price you pay monthly the contract length or the service supplied will not change. This is a cease charge that will only affect you if you cease your service. If you have no plans to cease then you are unaffected hence no changes or charges to pay.
I have not stated in any way that incereases in charges have to be accepted in fact i have posted that contracts can be terminated due to the changes.
you seem to be taking a personal attack on me and due to the wording of your posts you see me as BT the company and not a genuine poster here to help.
i offer advice its up to you if you take it and im not going to carry on this arguement with you.0 -

hi all, im new here...be nice!
just spoke to Bt for 2 hrs on the phone..went from india call centre to customer options./....spoke to 3 different people.....RIDICULOUS
finally got an answer..yes they finally gave in and offered me a connection charge of 29.99 provided i stick to them with 18 months....i had to bring up the service notice 35/08 etc etc..and some peeps at customer options even have the nerves to tell me they are at a call centre and have no access to notices or internet!!.
they are the worst company to deal with... only because i need home broadband that i am subscribing to this crap... that 2 hrs cost me abt 15quid on my mobile.. .. but if you all do wanna call i suggest dialing through 02002220900 when calling an 0800 number from your mobile rather than dailing straight. those telcos would suck the blood out of you!
p.s. i dont have cable! they kept saying the only option was available for virgin customers.... crappy0 -
A lot of the threads on this disscussion seem to be implying that all new housing is owned by the occupants, this is not always the case and can be housing association housing. Occupants in these cases are not always well off. The BT connection charge in these cases can be a large chunk out of their income. (Families with children may feel a phone line an essential not a luxury!) It may cost BT a lot more than they charge but it is a shame they do not offer concessions, or at least an easy payment option. After all BT is not making a loss even in very difficult financial climate!0

Would like to get clarification on something.
I am with Virgin and want to move my Broadband to Pipex.
From what I have read I should be able to get a £30 connection charge. No issue with this as BT will have to come and put a socket into my flat.
Does the £30 apply even though I am not going to take phone or Broadband with BT?
I don't hink this question has been asked? I only checked he last 5 pages and nt 50 odd.
Thanks in advance.ee0 -

You have to use BT for your line rental and some calls or incur a cancellation charge. You can use a broadband supplier of your choice.
This Special Offer is available to eligible residential customers between 1st October 2008 and 31st December 2008 (inclusive) who agree to take Unlimited Weekend Plan, Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan, or Unlimited Anytime Plan for a minimum period of 18 months.
Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or chargeable inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly.
Customers ceasing service during the minimum period of the special offer will be asked to pay, as a single payment, a sum which is equal to the total of the standard line rental charges (currently, £11.75inc. VAT per month) left in the 18 month minimum period.

it is a shame they do not offer concessions, or at least an easy payment option.
You can either pay the £29.99 connection fee ( 18 month contract) in one go.
Or spread the cost of a connection (12 month contract) .
"Residential customers who apply for a new exchange line can choose to make a payment in advance of service of £23.39 (exc VAT) / £27.49 (inc VAT). This cost includes a facility fee of £10.60 (exc VAT) / £12.46 (inc VAT), (the facility fee does not apply to BT Basic customers), followed by four further payments of £23.39 (exc VAT) / £27.49 (inc VAT) which will be added to their first four quarterly bills. Spread connection is not available to BT Pay&Call customers.
BT Basic customers who apply for a new exchange line can choose to make a payment in advance of service of £24.99(inc VAT) followed by four further payments of £25.00(inc VAT) which will be added to their first four quarterly bills."
