BT Connection Charges (merged threads)

hi Folks.
I work for BT (please don't send hate mail!!). To get the £29.99 connection charge you MUST ask for it - we are not allowed to pro-actively offer it and it can only be done through the "HomeMovers" or "COT - Customer Options Team".
To be honest its frustrating when you have a pensioner on the phone who wants the line installing & you can't tell them they can get it cheaper - hence people who I speak to may have experienced me vaguely talking about there might be the possibility of a discount!! - all calls ARE recorded so if I was caught I'd be sacked 'cos I'm an agency worker with no employment rights !!0 -

I'm gonna try this tomorrow.0 -
Connection charges as stated on their web site are free. But BT seems to always try to charge you for this...anything from £30 to £129. Stick to your guns. Go straight thro to complaints and tell them you want it for free. They always give in.
How are they getting away with this?0 -
Whilst trying to sort my phone line out in my new flat I was about to arrange for BT to do the connection for £125, but when I was speaking to an Orange CSR, they advised me that the Postoffice can also arrange a new connection.
The post office charge £110, which is only a saving of £15, but there is no minimum contract and you can cancel whenever you with no penalty cost.
I was advised that you can arrnge the line through post office, await the 2 week turn around for the line to become active and then change on the same day it becomes active! therefore getting the deal you want within 1 month, not three or whatever BTs minimum contract it.
In addition to this, they bill quarterly and you can pay your bill off over 3 months, meaning that you can have the line put in, change supplier and then pay for the line later!
:T
I have gone for this and will update on my progress!0 -
I'm surprised the Post Office haven't closed that loophole yet, they must be losing thousands through it.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Daughter had a new bt line in for £129.99, she was told by bt customer services that she would recieve the bill for the installation before the monthly rental charge bills began.
She was waiting for the installation bill to arrive then she planned on signing up to online billing and direct debit but the bill has come charging her the £129.99 plus 3 months rental at £13.25 a month up until December. Total first bill is £164.74 and they have made no calls.
She thought it was just one month in advance not 3, she only had it installed on 16th September. Will they take the extra cost off for the monthly rental if she rings them seeing as she was misinformed? Its supposed to be £10.50 a month paperless billing and direct debit but shes being charged £13.25 a month for 3 months.Thanx

Sounds like BT......................... just can't wait to get the money off you.
Certainly phone up and complain.0 -
After phoning they say they have refunded the extra charges due to being incorrectly informed by the customer service operator but it will show as refund on next bill. Have changed to monthly payments, paperless billing and direct debit so it will be just the £10.50 a month from now on. So lets hope the next bill is correctThanx

Does anyone know of a way to reduce the amount having to pay to BT when cancelling a 12 months contract?
6 months ago we moved to a temporary rented accommodation, we knew it was a matter of time be fore our house purchase will go through and the needed work to take place so that we could move in. There was a inactive BT line at the house and we had it switched on, now choice as to going into a 12 months contract. Now we are moving into our new house (existing BT connection) and can either move BT with us for no cost but enter a new 12 month contract, or get a Virgin Media line andpay BT £70.50 (£11.75*6)...0
