  • I am currently on Virgin Media Broadband and phone (I do not have virgin t.v) but I want to change to sky t.v, phone and broadband, I have a BT line in my house but it is not connected, I asked BT to connect it and they quoted me £125! I am not going to pay that. Is there any way of getting around this fee?

    Please help.

Have arranged a reinstallation line with bt at £125.

I rang sky to sort out the credit back for having the line reinstalled and they have agreed and are sending out a form to fill in and send back to them with the bt bill when it comes with the charge on.

I'm now a bit confused as I took the offer of the see, speak and surf with a free sky+ box with sky at £17 so will this mean that sky will take over the bt line straight away and break any contract with bt as it will be a new 12 month contract with them? bt have put it as £10.50 a month with free upgrade to free evening and weekend calls for 12 months then to renew contract to keep offer or pay the extra 2.70 a month to keep it but not have a 12 month contract again. Its very confusing when sky say they provide the calls.

Could I stay with bt for calls for the first 12 months of this new contract then not renew the bt contract and just pay them for line rental and sky for the calls? and still keep it at the £17 with sky on see speak surf?

Does anyone know where the terms and conditions are for a new phoneline rental with bt I cant find it on the site?
    Thanx

  • I want to move downstairs to another room in my shared house and the gits are still asking for for the 125 fee. I've had them for a few months now upstairs.

last time I phoned the guy said an engineer would have to come round to check it, is he just speaking out his bum to try and convince me that there is a plausible explanation for this kind of fee, it's what I would now expect from this sheety company.

I have a similar scenario - I currently have Sky TV and despite what they say, you do not need to have an active BT line for it to work at least not after the initial set-up.

Our phone line has been deactivated for around 4 years and this has had no effect on our Sky reception.

HOWEVER I am now in the process of getting a free Sky+ box (having used the Introduce a Friend offer) and have been told by a friend that Sky+ DOES need an active phone line and will occasionally crash if the line is not active.

So if this is true about sky+ then I need to get my line reactivated but don't want to shell out too much for that or indeed for line rental as I won't be using the phone line for calls.

Any ideas if this is true about Sky+ and if so, any tips for getting around it or keeping costs down would be welcomed!
  • The active phone line is to do with the subsidy you get when you sign up to Sky.

The reception comes from the dish the telephone line doesn't affect that.

You agree to have the phone connected for 12 months but many people disconnect the phoneline from the Sky receiver shortly after getting it.

At one time you could pay an additional fee (£25) and not have to connect the phoneline.
Not sure what the rules are now.
  • A word of advice to all, never listen to the sales team at BT. All they seem to want to do is make commission from you or something! After being told I'd left it too late to simply switch the line in to my name at my new address, I complained to BT. Soon enough they decided my line WAS still active and that I could have the phone reconnected at no cost other than line rental. A little complaint goes a long way.

Have you registered online here at BT.com? It should tell you when your next bill is due.

Yes if you go for online paperless billing.
