Does this mean they wont sell a kitchen knife if you have a teenager with you

and what about dangerous things like teaspoons?

Personally if I had my 14 year old with me, I would put the wine or other alcohol on first and if they refused to sell it to me, I would leave all my shopping for them to put back.

    Just me.

BRILLIANT - and absolutely the right thing to do, and tell the local paper, and never shop there again!

Well I thought perhaps it was just Sainsbury's in Woking being paranoid but it would appear my OH is not in a minority at all !! I have just finished a carefully worded letter that I am sending to the Customer Director at Sainsbury's - I'll let you know her response, if any ;)
  • I can see why this is done but it is a stupid approach that won't work in the long run. It's the same as going into a doctors saying you have these really ban pains and just being given painkillers without any sort of examination, it works in that you no longer have pain but the underlying problem is still there.

If we as a society don't sort out the root cause of the problem - teenagers and the desire to get drunk/high then the "Think" 21/25 approach may cause even more grief. We'll have drug dealers who couldn't give a monkeys about whether someone is 18 or not selling drugs to kids. There was a case a while back of Valium actively being sold to children in their mid-teens http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8315686.stm As one of Harry Enfield's characters used to say "is that what you want, coz that's what'll happen"...

this happened to me in Tesco with my toddler. full weeks shopping plus a bottle of rose and 2 bottles of indian lager for OH. Apparently i *COULD* of been buying alcohol for a minor.

In Mr S a similar thing happened with my dad and sister. dad is 64 sis 26. asked for ID as sis apparently looked younger than 25 sis duely produced her driving licence. Dad had no ID so alcohol refused. apparently according to them it's the law!! if in a group when one peron looks under 25 then unless all produce ID then no alcohol is sold.

i cant see the problem with this policy, inconvenient yes but sensible. (or would be if dodgy corner shops did the same) you go into a shop with a kid and expect to be sold alcohol?

When I was buying wine, I didn't just get refused - I actually got asked for ID for my 14 year-old daughter who was in her school uniform. Now THAT is thick.
