I know someone who works for a major supermarket that probably has a M in it's name somewhere that approved the sale of alcohol to a man in this situation only to have their manager step in and refuse it!
  • This Topic seems to have struck a nerve with lots of people. I agree whole heartedly with the majority that common sense is key in resolving these issues. I doubt that the supermarkets will change there approach, UNLESS More people confront them about this policy. When it comes down to it thats all it is a Store Policy. The law doesn't forbid parents to buy alcohol when with their children.

I was asked for ID a few months ago for buying jack daniels barbeque sauce. I believe that does have quite alot of alcohol in it BUT who in there right mind would chug down a bottle of sauce?

Anyways, if anyone is willing to start some sort of petition/protest then i would happlily join.

as he was with our 16 yo DD and apparently the two of them together were classed as a 'group' by the cashier and store manager and despite being part of other shopping they decided OH was buying the (red) wine for DD to consume :eek::eek:. OH said it wasn't for her (what 16 yo drinks red wine - if it had been Breezers or similar I could have maybe seen why they were supicious) but for a dinner party we had last night and the cashier said "I don't believe you". Manager was called and said same as cashier so OH paid for the rest of the (non-alcoholic) shopping and left.

Leaving DD outside, OH went back in the shop to buy the wine assuming that as he is 48 and was no longer in a 'group', he would be served. He picked up the bottle and walked towards the tills and the manager chased him through the aisle yelling "put it down, put it down, we're not serving you":confused::confused::confused::confused:

So be warned - do not take your children shopping with you to Sainsbury's if you are buying alcohol as they will not serve you :D:D:D
i had a similar experience, i'm 28 and some dimwit on self scans in tesco decided i was too young to buy booze, but said if i knew someone working there that knew how old i was there was no issue going through their till ''its up to them if they risk it'' apparently going to school with the checkout supervisors older sister many years ago isnt good enough. i then got security chasing me up the wine aisle making a right scene

  • Supermarkets (or any shop for that matter) don't have to sell anything to anybody.
they arent legally obliged to, but economics says otherwise ;)

local shop near my parents decided not to sell cigarettes at all, lasted about 3 months under those particular owners :rotfl:
