Having three children (aged 18,16 and 13) I would have to disagree that the ratio is one good parent to one bad parent. To say that you have to plan your shopping trip without your child if you are buying alcohol on the basis that some parents give their children drink without worrying about the consequence is tarring the majority with the same brush as the minority. Only allowing someone to buy alcohol when there is not a child present is not going to stop irresponsible parents from giving alcohol to underage drinkers but is another way of the Government to pretend they are actually addressing the problem.0 -
You're husband had already been refused. If I was the Manager I would be saying how many times do you need to be told that no means !!!!ing no ?
He had been told he couldn't buy alcohol because my daughter was with him so went in without her to legitimately buy a bottle of wine that he was legally allowed to for our dinner party that evening to try and avoid having to drive somewhere else.
And if that is the way you would speak to a customer I do hope that you don't deal with the public on a regular basis
Thank you Shellsuit - I must have been posted the same time as you0 -
It was the online delivery dept I worked for,I was responsible for the deliveries, drivers & store shoppers (until they re-structured!)
In the case the only person at home is under 18,the delivery is re-arranged if possible & returned to the store. If the person is over 18 & can prove it to the driver, then it can go ahead, booze included.Which kinda makes the over 25 rule null & void then, does'nt it.0 -

I think what the poster alluding to was that if my daughter is at home with me when a delivery arrives, how is that different to her being with me in the shop.

This can happen in just about any supermarket based on other people's previous experiences.
Yes - and its B***** daft ! In the OP's husbands shoes I would have told them to stuff the rest of the shopping. I know they have to be careful but surely they must have SOME common sense - this just isn't what the alcohol/minors law is supposed to be about.ELITE 5:2

Quote"I can see their point if they have some spotty barely old enough "adult" buying it with a teenager in tow but when its obviously a parent, its ridiculous. Surely common sense will prevail.
I will definately put my booze at the front of the shopping and as you say if they wont allow me to buy it I shall leave the rest of the shopping for them to put back." end quote.
I know I'm being petty - but if I have my grandchildren with me and I've got wine/spirits then all my other shopping wil go on first and if they want to play silly ******* then they can jolly well cancel all the shopping off the till and I'll go to a shop that acts sensibly!ELITE 5:2

But any parent shopping with their child "could" give it to the child. In fact the child doesn't need to come shopping they could wait at home or in the car:rolleyes:
It just doesn't male sense
Freudian slip there!ELITE 5:2
