maybe we should start introducing ourselves when we present to the cashier
"Hi Marlene, my name is Jane Smith, this is my daughter Julie Notsmith (a result of a previous relationship which broke down 12 years ago), and this is my husband John Smith (no relation to the pack of 4 here upon the conveyor belt) - anyway, we are having a family shopping/bonding experience in your store today and because I feel I deserve a drink I have purchased myself one bottle of Pinot Grigio and, as previously mentioned, a 4 pack of John Smiths, for John Smith. Daughter Julie has not requested that I purchase either product for her own consumption - she is here because she wants to make sure that chocolate and crisps go into the trolley. Now, I obviously don't need a hand with my shopping so you carry on scanning the tampax (for me) and the anusol (for John)"

I can see why the rules are there, but there's got to be a little bit of common sense too. When does a child become a problem in terms of selling alcohol to their parents with a weekly shop? Is it only teenagers? I've not seen any official polices in any supermarkets, whilst they do usually have a notice up about the "Think 21" or "Think 25" policy
Some friends of mine, a married couple aged 28 and 30, recently tried to buy wine with their shopping - they were refused by the SA, they believed he was old enough but she didn't have any ID on her
she didnt look older than 21 or 25 or whatever it is for sainsburys, the checkout person may have found it hard to tell how old she was, teh staff are regulary trained and shown photos of people underage and people old enough to drink and are asked to say what age they think the peeps in the pics are0 -

No what they say is that if the assistant believes the alcohol could be for the consumption of a minor they can refuse to sell it and this is part of my problem - my husband advised the assistant and the manager that the bottle of red wine was not for our 16 year old daughter and basically they were saying that he was a liar
But any parent shopping with their child "could" give it to the child. In fact the child doesn't need to come shopping they could wait at home or in the car:rolleyes:
It just doesn't male sense0 -

I appreciate this; my friends were fine with it too, the SA has a job to do. It's just a demonstration of the lunacy of the system, when you're 28 years old, out shopping with your husband on your way home from work on a Friday night and you can't buy a bottle of wine to go with your evening meal! They laughed about it and I thought it was very funny whan I was told too0 -
Although I've seen people refused sale of booze when I was at Sainsbury's,I cannot recall someone in the same position as the OP's hubby being refused sale of cigarettes.....0
