Sainsburys refused to sell OH a bottle of wine

Its happening more and more and more.
I think its down to a lack of training for till staff, and a lack of common sense on behalf of the managers.
If somebody was buying alcohol for a minor, they are not stupid enough to have the minor alongside them at the till!
You'll see the minors congregated outside the corner shop/ supermarket0 -
I worked for Sainsbury's for a while last year & they operate a 'Think 21' policy where they'll refuse sale of booze, ciggs or dangerous good's to those they think are under 21y/old.
Did the manager record the refusal in a book? That they have to do by law so I would ask to see that.
I even saw them refuse to sell beer to some soldiers rom the local camp even when the soldier in question produced his MoD 90 ID card.
Later,I queried it in a managers meeting & was told an MoD90 is'nt an official ID as proof of age.
So I asked why not & was told a veriety of reasons from it is'nt hologrammed (which it is) does'nt show date of birth (which it does) ect
Then I shot the manager's excuses down by getting my MoD90 out of my wallet!0 -

They are now operating a 'Think 25' policy :eek: which apparently is a new Government directive. Thank for the info in the refusal book - as far as OH is aware it wasn't recorded however assume manager can fill that in at any time and it doesn't need to be seen by my OH ? Therefore have no idea if it was filled in, and if I query it now have a sneaking suspision that it will appear

Yes it can be filled in at any time. When I worked there sometimes it was too busy to write in the book straight away after every transaction so I printed a duplicate receipt noted down the details quickly then copied it into the book when things were more quiet.0 -
The government can come out with as many "directives" as they want.
The stores are not offering enough training to front-line staff on acceptable forms of ID, suspect behaviour, age-restricted items, and most of all "the common sense" of refusals.0 -
Personally if I had my 14 year old with me, I would put the wine or other alcohol on first and if they refused to sell it to me, I would leave all my shopping for them to put back.

I did phone customer services yesterday and reported it and they said they would draw it to the attention of the training manager  I said I would like some feedback - and they asked what I wanted - and I said an apology from the manager basically for calling my husband a liar and chasing him through the store in front of other customers.
Apparently she is going to ask if he is prepared to apologise for the chasing but said that he wouldn't apologise for following the law. We will see ..........................

This is bloody stupid - I'm almost 31 and when I got my driving licence it was the old fashioned paper one. I have no use nor need to change this to a photo one that I have to pay to change every 10 years or so and as such have no photo id other than my passport (which I don't tend to carry around).
My only proof of being 18 or over is the fact I have a credit card - now this wouldn't be accepted as proof of being 18 or over (as you have to be 18 to obtain credit) as it may be someone else's, yet they'll be more than happy to let me pay on it - though it may be someone elses...0 -
Where do they draw the line with this? I mean...how old do your kids have to be before they refuse to serve you? When its obviously a family, I find this extremely ridiculous.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0
