Hi guys. I know this is probably wasteful, but you CAN buy double yolk eggs at Waitrose, they are boxed and sold as double yolk eggs, I often buy them as I like them. They are a bit more expensive, but I think well worth it. I buy them from Waitrose in Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

I told them that when I was little my Dad used to always get us double yolker eggs and this has made them go on and on at me to try and get some. Does anyone know where I might find them.

Hi there, My local butcher ( NE22) sells eggs and at this time of year a lot of them are double yolkers and a rich yellow colour. We get them to supplement our own supply from our chickens but ours haven't laid any double yolkers. Don't know if thats any use to you, i can find out who his supplier is if its any use to you. Let me know.
  • Where we used to live, there was a little grocery shop at the end of our street, we used to always get our eggs from there, and 9 times out of 10 the full box were double yolkers. OH loved it, but they freak me out slightly! :)

Certainly not luck as when I have bought them they are advertised as double yolk eggs :)

    From this website http://ulisse.cas.psu.edu/pa4h/embryoquestion.html

    is the following...

    2. What is a double-yolked egg?
It is an egg which has two yolks in it. Both yolks were ovulated (released) at or about the same time and enclosed in the same shell. Many eggs with double yolks occur when young adult female chickens first start producing eggs. Their egg-forming organs are not adjusted or not yet synchronized, so two yolks are released together. Shortly after egg production starts, the chickens' bodies adjust, and for the most part, they then lay eggs with only one yolk. But, there are some chickens which inherit the characteristic to lay double-yolked eggs and usually continue to do so throughout their life.

Thanks for this - destroys my theory that triple yolkers can't exist - I'm always happy to learn something new! :D
