For the sake of clarity you mean re-signed [new signs] as opposed to resigned [stood down].

Re-signed but both would be best!!:p
  • Recently received a ticket from excel Parking Services. Appealed on the grounds that I am in a wheelchair and when I tried to pay there was a car parked on the marked out area for the public to stand on when paying, there was no way of me getting to the machine to pay. I sent photographic evidence to Excel but appeal turned down. Any advice please

The advice is to ignore these clowns from now on. Their so-called "appeals" service is a sham, it's not impartial and it's against their business model to turn down the chance to rake in money. You have done nothing wrong and you don't owe them a penny.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Of course your 'appeal' was turned down - it's a private profit-making company which has NO appeals procedure! It only pretends it does to make the fake PCN look real (they mimic real PCNs from Councils) and to get information from the driver so they know the letters they now send out will be received and read by someone who actually thinks it's a real fine.

It's like a phishing email and you got hooked - now please DO NOT let yourself become a paying victim of this scam.

Obviously from now on, just ignore all letters from them and their scumbag debt collector. But if you have only seen this thread you need to read the current forum info & threads; newbies like you often miss sooo much!

General forum tip which should help you I hope:

When you do a Google search and you get and old/random forum thread as a result, all you then are best to do is click on the board where the thread sits. Then you see the current view of related new threads on the forum board.

Look at the board this thread sits on just by clicking on the end part of the > link that precedes the thread name, shown in blue at the top of the page. In this case, above the thread title, top of this page, it shows:

Home > Forums > Home & Play > Motoring, Public Transpost & Cycling > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking > ('name of the thread you are looking at').

Hence you just click on 'Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking' in the blue chain>link above to view current threads on the board you are on.

Works with any forum, always go back a step. See my signature - which attempts to tell people this, without providing a link as we're not allowed.

When you do as I suggest you will see a top thread with PPC letters, showing you what to expect and ignore (in pictures). And you will see a sticky thread called 'welcome, please read before posting' which has a must-see Watchdog youtube clip.

Plus you will see all the current threads from today and yesterday, we get 20 or 30 new queries here every day. Have a look and see how many times we tell peeps to ignore any fake PCN from any private company.

Get familiar with the scam and get ready for a game of PPC snap with the debt collector letters!

  • I parked my car in retail car park and I paid £0.50 for an hour. It might accidentaly flip over my car park ticket on the other side when I closed my door. When I came back there was a parking charge notice by excel, £40 to pay with in 14 days or they will charge me more if I cannot pay with in 14 days. So I rung them straight away that I had paid £0.50 pence and came back after 40 minutes. They said to send the copy of my car park ticket by fax or by post ( they did not mentioned to include my details). So I sent it the next day as what they instructed me.After 18 days I received a letter from excel that they had acknowledge my letter that they recieved it after 4 days and payed £.050 but still, they wont cancel the charged. This time, they charging me £100 pounds because I did not include my name and address to contact me and they have to use their time and effort to obtained my details from fee paying inqueries (dvla maybe for £3 pounds). "Why would I gave them my name and address" so now they will send me to court if I won't pay £100. ANY ADVICE???

Advice??? Yes, try reading either the post immediately before yours, or ideally the stickies at the top of this board.

Further advice [possibly not the sort you want]...try using paragraphs to make your posting easier to read.

Read the sticky threads, watch the Watchdog video. Why on earth did you take it seriously and just do what a scammer told you to? This wasn't a parking ticket!

  • Hi All

Can I just say these threads have given my husband and I great reasurance whilst 'ignoring' the nice colourful letters from Excel Parking, thank you!

The PCN was issued on 1/11/11
The Notice To Owner was issued on 21/11/11
The Final Demand Notice was issued on 7/12/11
As of todays date: 18/1/12 we have not had any further correspondence from Excel or their solicitors.

Couple of little niggles though: Can anyone advise us as to the time scale for this matter to be taken further by this company. We have read the private parking company code of practice and it does not state a time period that PPC's have to persue legal action by.
We understand that it is highly unlikley that we will recieve any more letters but so we can put this to the back of our minds, is there a time limit by which they should write to us before they are unable to go to court with this?
Also, if it does happen, should we officially recieve letters from a solicitor prior to being issued with a court summons? The final demand notice states that the next step would be court proceedings being issued, not that it would be referred to their solicitors, as you would expect.

Thanks again to everyone for the helpful advice.

The time limit for any civil claim is 6 years, but once the letters have stopped for a few months it is most unlikely you will hear any more. My wife received two "fines" whilst parked at the hospital she worked at and she received letters from Trethowans. Because she is a senior manager we engaged with them and pointed out that her manager had given her permission to park. They wanted proof so we also pointed out that the car park in question had no signage whatsoever advising of "fines".

We haven't heard anything from them since we wrote the last letter in June 2010.

It is not necessary to use a solicitor to write to someone advising that there may be court action. Anyone can write a letter before action/notice before action advising any party of their intentions.

  • I got a parking Charge Notice from Excel due to me overstaying the time.
I had the change but the machine wouldn't take the last 10p so decided to just press the button as I couldn't get any more change and it shows how much you have paid on the ticket anyway.
I didn't actually expect to be given this charge for being 10p short required for the day (13 hours I think?). I did see the expiry time on the ticket (about 4 hours instead, for about £1 less I think) but never seriously thought this would happen, this particular machine is always taking money off people already.

When I got back I realised I probably should have tried the other machine at the other end of the car park and tried to get my money back from the duff one but never thought at the time.

I realise from the net that the appeal is pointless but I'm wondering whether to pay the £40 because I don't want to go to court and end up in more serious bother. They may pursue if they think it's an easy case. Common sense would tell you that I wasn't intentionally trying to steal from them or anything, I'd be happy to pay the 10p, I read that legally they can only recover the money I short changed them (10p) is this correct?

    Regards,

    Technical
