Got pulled over for running a red light, now lost my producer!!!

Options
Hi

I ran a red light last wednesday, has the light showed amber I accelerated to try and get over the light but for a split second it was red as I went over.

Whether its justice or just unfortunate there was an unmarked police car behind me who came tapping on my window at the next set of lights.

He and his partner sat me in the back of the car and issued me with a producer and a £60 fine and 3 penalty points.

I was set to pay the find and surrender my licence buy my girlfriend mixed my producer document up with my outgoing post and posted my producer document.

I went to the police station today and they said that there is nothing they can do. I will have to wait for my summons to court.

This is going to cost more time and money. I am a full time student at university and I just don't have the time and money for this.

Why do they duplicate the copy of the producer. If they can't use their copy for these type of situations. I am willing to pay the fine, I have handed my documents in to the police within the 7 days but there is nothing else I can do but wait for my summons to court.

Maybe the police should be looking for the criminal who broke into my girlfriends car last month, they didn't even visit her or look at her car after it was broken into, yet they have time to drive around pulling innocent people over for petty offences.

I use to have the most respect for the police but today I realise just why they are so unpopular. I am so angry!!!!!

  • Go back to the police and produce documents. Tell them to log your visit and get a reference number. Take a witness. You are now on a sticky path towards a conviction for failure to produce, which will probably only be averted when you state the case to the magistrates.

The police are now looking on you as an opportunity to score a conviction and are exploiting your documentation problem. As far as I can see, you have a duty to produce documents, and if you turn up to do that, you will have comp-lied. Turning up with their paperwork is not a legal requirement AFAICS.

    Welcome to the Stasi state.

I can understand your frustration at the producer not being available so that you can pay up your fine and I don't really understand why the police don't have some sort of record. However, I don't think jumping a red light is a petty offence - having witnessed a nasty accident a few weeks ago where the same thing happened, the consequences could have been a lot worse than a tap on your window.

Does your girlfriend know where she posted the producer so that maybe you can retrieve it quickly before the court summons?
  • I am a safe driver, I have never been involved in an accident or even come close. The light was practically on amber and it is a common bad habbit I am sure everybody has done as well as driving a few mile over the speed limit.

However I do acknowledge the mistake is mine and I am willing to pay the fine and accept the three points. There is just no way I am able to do it without the producer which went missing a couple of days ago so it could be anywhere

This wasn't really jumping a red light though, more an "amber gambler" moment where you put your foot down on amber.

Depending on your speed, sometimes it's safer to continue through an amber light rather than sharply applying your brakes. I've seen people apply the brakes to stop when the light has gone amber only to have the person behind plough into them!

I have very little respect for the police nowadays, as they seem more interested in catching simple petty "crimes" that bring in revenue rather than going after real criminals.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

No it wasnt an amber gambler as he clearly admits one it was at red before he went over the line, and secondly he deliberately risked it. I will bet if the car behind was marked he wouldnt have.

And OP you are not a safe driver if you think risks like this are safe. Many lights have short intervals on them and you are lucky not to have caused a major accident.

Out of interest did you attend the police station before or after the original producer expired?
  • My producer has not yet expired. The lights were on amber when I accelerated to get over but yes when I crossed the line the lights were red. However may I ask, if it was concidered dangerous, surely the police who followed behind me at the lights were putting drivers at an even higher risk as he blatantly went over on red to follow me and pull me over. So it would seem the police had more interest in issuing a fine that they had interest of other road users safety.

But this is not the issue. The issue is how can I avoid my summons to court when I am willing to accept the points and pay the fine?

in comparisson to breaking into peoples cars and stealing there belongings, i would say yes it is petty. Yet the police had no interest in even looking at my girlfriends car ater it was broken into.

Police drivers especially those who drive unmarked cars are highly trained and will be trained to assess all the risks, only once they did that would they have followed you through the red light.
