What food have you thrown out this week?

3 squishy bananas.
The point here is that you think youre getting a good deal at the supermarket when they give you an extra 50% free, but if this just goes in the bin that's not much of a bargain. Supermarkets simply aren't geared up for singletons. I reckon I actually save money by buying most of my groceries from specialist stores - I have a great greengrocer that sells organic and spray-free produce at near-normal prices, and who don't mind me buying just one or two bananas/tomatoes etc, a bakery stall at my local street market that sells delicious 400g loaves, a cheese shop, health food shop etc. You'd think it would be more expensive this way, but the big saving is in not being lured into buying loads of other stuff you hadn't thought you needed until you saw them bearing a big red promotional sticker. It's also more fun, more social, and helps the local community.0 -
Molanole wrote:You can freeze mashed potato?? Now there's something I never knew. It's my ultimate favourite food as well (as she scuttles off to the kitchen to bulk cook mash!)
This week we have thrown away a manky, weepy spring onion (I see a trend in my weekly throwing out) and loads of milk that was still in date as it hit my tea this morning and went all into solid blobs, something not quite right there.
From my desk at work I am ashamed to say that an old bag of satsumas ended up as part of the "i've got the auditors coming during the week" cull. Sorry everyone.
Put a little butter in a frying pan, throw in some of those breadcrumbs you make when the bread is going stale, then put your left-over mashed potatoes on top (and left-over are actually better than freshly mashed). When the breadcrumbs are going golden, sprinkle some more on top and flip over to cook on the other side.0 -
OOOh , used to always have them when i was a little girl.

2 courgettes.... didn't know had 'gone' till picked up and put fingers through them:eek:    yuk yuk!!!!!! but then picked them out of bin, washed under tap and salvaged about 1/2 of each. Then felt disgusted with self for being so minging...... then ate them anyway, fried with cumin seeds, yum yum!:pA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
