As for homemade deodorant - when I had probs with my meds and couldn't use deodorant I just used a mix of cornflour and bicarb - worked fine till about June and a daily shower... Just dust it on with cotton wool - sorted :j....

I just ordered my scissors and clips from amazon....Kid ye not - less than £10 (more like 8 something) for the whole lot and that's for professional hair clips too :) I think the scissors were about £5 :)...and you can also get a barber razor on there for about £4...

So we don't need to go to the hair dressers ever again :)

    Yay!!!!

    -*-BUMP-*-

Fascinating thread, please keep it up!

I use simple witch hazel as a toner and for sore, itch or spotty skin. Very cheap and not too adulterated.

BTW, Lush (the shop) may constantly bang on about their products having natural scents and ingredients and but if you look at their products ingredients lists, they have many of the same unpleasant chemicals as the big pharmaceutical/cosmetic companies, ie parabens and sls. Fine, if you love Lush stuff, but if you want to avoid man-made and/or petro-chemicals, you need to look elsewhere!

    Just sayin' :D
  • We must use natural products as much possible as we can.Natural products are very effective and are without side effect as well.
  • sugar scrub for lips is amazing.
easy to do, i use demerera sugar as the crystals are bigger. honey and mint.
they sell a similar product in lush
but this is a lot cheaper and works just as well
  • I LOVE homemade hairmasks.
One of my favourite ones is:
    2 tablespoons of honey
    2 egg yolks
    almond oil

spread it on your hair ( not the roots ), wrap with a plastic bag and a towel on top. Keep on hair for as long as you can, once i kept it on over night. Do it every couple of days, hair is shiny, long, no split ends.

Your DD might benefit from jojoba oil with a few drops of tea tree oil as a facial oil, jojoba regulates sebum and tea tree oil is amazing for acne.

I'm currently working on a facial oil blend to replicate the $$$ ones, with all sorts to soothe sensitive skin, heal broken capillaries, regulate sebum, anti-ageing. Have researched all the top notch products, selected the oils, got my carriers but now need to source the others like neroli at a reasonable price
And making a hair oil blend like kerastase- I currently use straight argan oil but want to add a few others.

I bought neroil for here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Absolute-Aromas-Neroli-Oil-2ml/dp/B0013G2WA6/ref=sr_1_7?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1324125579&sr=1-7 although I didnt get the pure one I bought the 5% dilute with jojoba which was around £4

I have just made my own version of the Elemis Skin Bliss capsules, now obviously you cant do the capsule thing at home but it looks and smells the same my skin is looking great after 2 weeks and it cost me around £40 for everything including the pipettes and I think I have enough for well over a years supply (the real thing is £60 for a months supply!)

Im getting well into making my own stuff - can anyone reccomend a book where I can learn whats good for what?

I wish I would take my own advice!

Thanks for your great suggestion Adelight! sorry I only just saw this post. Presently she seems to have gone LUSHmad, and her being 15 I can't tell her too much. I Might just get the ingredients though and spring them on her when she's feeling poor. How would she use it? just apply like a moisteriser?
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

  • I use olive oil for several parts of my beauty regime! Family used to laugh and now a few others use it. Extra virgin olive oil is a little too thick but standard olive oil is more fluid and lasts for ages. I use it for removing make up, and a couple of drops to moisturise. Sometimes use a tiny bit for hair - why buy expensive hair serum as its base ingredient is oil.
  • Just wondered if anyone had any experience with using avocados in natural beauty treatments? I've been looking at a few things online and have found a couple of sites but wanted to know if anyone had actually tried to use them...?

    Thanks in advance,
