I mix olive oil and sugar and use them as a body scrub on thighs and bum. When you've finished scrubbing and wash off the sugar, your skin feels really, really smooth.0

DD age 14 has very oily breakout prone skin. Last night she had a friend over and they decided to try 2 home rememdies they'd seen on youtube. First a lemon and sugar face scrub, I was a bit concerned the lemon juice would be too harsh but seemed to be fine. Then they did a Milk of Magnesium face mask, finally moisterising with a tiny bit of almond oil. I was quite please everything was relatively natural (not sure how many chemicals are in milk of magnesium). I can honestly say there was a significant difference in their skin when they had finished, brighter, cleaner, less inflamed. I don't have oily skin so I didn't try it, but perhaps useful for anyone with oily/acne prone skin. Google or look on youtube for more details. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

We're going a bit 'Homemade Beauty Treatment' mad in our house! I stumbled on a reference online to Body Shop's old 'Aduki Bean Face Scrub', thought hmmm we have masses of aduki beans in the cuboard (2 veggie DD's) - so followed instructions, had a go at grinding some up and using a spoonful of the finely gound powder mixed with few drops of warm water as a face scrub. The smell is a bit 'beany' sort of like fresh peas, but if you don't mind that makes an excellent gentle scrub leaving my sensitive skin beautifully clean and smooth but not dry.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. I am really into my home made cleansing routine at the moment, I bought some small travel containers from primark £1.
I remove my makeup with 50/50 witchhazel and extra virgin olive oil - used to get through loads of boots botanics remover but this is so much better and cheaper. You can also use water instead of witch hazel.
dry skin face wipes 67p wilkinsons - love the smell
witch hazel toner - added a few drops of frankinscense essential oil which is anti aging (expensive but long lasting) and patchouli which is good for pores
eye gel - aloe vera gel & frankinscense & Vitamin E oil mixed up
moisturiser - 2 drops of wonder oil from holland and barratt about £10 a bottle for 250ml but at 2 drops will last forever! contains lots of good oils such as almond, jojoba, vitamin E and lots of essential oils. A few drops massaged onto my face and it sinks in really easily with no oily residue.
I also use oil cleansing method about once a week as a boost and deep cleanse - 20% castor oil, 80% almond oil as I have normal skin/combination skin.
Also making own lipbalms with shea butter, beeswax and almond oil with a few drop of flavour oil and honey.
I have also made a 'healing' balm with almond oil and vaseline, melting in microwave and adding in lots of lavender, teatree, patchouli, orange oil and eucalyptus essential oils. I amke this very concentrated but only need to use a tiny amount at a time. Brilliant for clearing up spots and blemishes.0 -
My all time fave is a coffee no-scrub scrub...sounds wrong but I'll explain.
Put 2/3 tsp of bog standard coffee granules in a cup and mix a little water to make a paste - don't use coffee grounds, this should be non-gritty.
Don't worry if it seems watery either, it will still work.
Rub into your face/neck/decolletage/backs of hands and allow to dry for at least 10mins.
(You will look like a walnut statue lol!)
Rinse off and your skin will be slinky smooth.
Coffee is a natural exfoliant, so you don't need any gritty stuff to get the dead skin off.Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
Olive oil and avocado oil used for EVERYTHING including as a night cream. I had my stretch marks treated with skin needling a year ago and the lady that did the treatment, rather than sell me an expensive aftercare cream, sent me to the food shop and asked me to keep my skin moist with these two oils! She was right, I got fantastic results! She said that I should bin all my lotions and potions and stick with the oils which I have done!0

I'm currently working on a facial oil blend to replicate the $$$ ones, with all sorts to soothe sensitive skin, heal broken capillaries, regulate sebum, anti-ageing. Have researched all the top notch products, selected the oils, got my carriers but now need to source the others like neroli at a reasonable price
And making a hair oil blend like kerastase- I currently use straight argan oil but want to add a few others.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
I just youtubed how to cut long hair
here is the result- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_zkQ1cMo5E
As for homemade deodorant - when I had probs with my meds and couldn't use deodorant I just used a mix of cornflour and bicarb - worked fine till about June and a daily shower... Just dust it on with cotton wool - sorted :j....

Right I've got a question
Just read the entire thread (I kid ye not) and wondering if any of these recipes would be good for reducing the colouration of self harm scars..
Mostly cutting but some burns (3rd degree) as well.. with a few raised lumps from scar tissue (really keen to get those down)
Just can't afford 'bio-oil'
