My cat has run away - UPDATE SHE'S BACK!!!!!

Im so devastated at the moment my sister left a window open here yesterday and my cat Missy must have jumped out. I just don't know what to do, she is an indoor cat so no experience of roads or anything - I live right next to a dual carriageway.
I have been out all morning looking with a few friends and none of us have found her. I've made posters and stuck them up wherever I could and knocked a few doors of people to ask them to be on the lookout. But still nothing & Im sitting here crying my eyes out, my other cat is sitting by the door crying for her & its so horrible & rainy out I dpn't know if she is going to be ok.
I have rang around local vets & rspca but they are all closed so I've left messages but does anybody have any other ideas of things I can do? I just feel useless looking in the same places time and time again & not finding her.

Just a thought, have you checked all your cupboards, washer ect incase she has got shut in somewhere? it just seems strange that an indoor cat would suddenly jump out of the window.I only ask because years ago a strange cat got in through our catflap and got shut in a cupboard unfortuanetly it died because when we heard it cry in the night we natuarly assumed it was our cat.If she is missing i hope she comes home soon and maybe she will hear your other cat if she is nearbye.0 -

When I lived in London I thought Ted had got out.
I spent the day searching, I had posters up offering a reward.
He has squezed his big butt into a tiny little space & gone to sleep.0 -
When my daughter and her friends house shared they heard the cat whining from what sounded like far away.
They coudnt find it anywhere (the sound was coming from the kitchen)
The opened the fridge door and there she was ..................
Luckily they had only used the fridge 10 minutes before so she must have jumped in then.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Try not to worry (easier said than done, I know), pusscat will probably not have gone that far away if she's an indoor cat. Do the neighbourhood cats use your garden? If so, they may have claimed your garden as their territory and scared your pusscat off. Cats generally find their way home by their scent-trails but as yours is an inside babe she may not have learned how to do this. This is what I suggest you do:
Empty the contents of the littler tray in the garden (if she's close by, this will act as a "this is home" marker.
Go out later once it's quiet and dark and call her name. Wait to hear her response, as she may be trapped in a shed so her miaows might be faint.
Visit all houses in the vicinity and BEG people to check garages, sheds and outhouses while you wait. A lot of people will say they'll do it but might not once you've gone. Do this radiating away from home in a larger and larger area.
Try not to worry. A friend of mine's indoor puss got lost and was missing for ten whole days. When he showed up again the poor mite was ravenously hungry and very thirsty so we think Hamish got locked in a garage somehow, so maybe the owner either didn't use it very much or had been away.
The vast majority of missing cats are found/come back home.0 -

Yes Im afraid I've checked absolutely everywhere I can possibly think of in the flat - it's not very big so not too many hidey holes but i've shaken the biscuits a sound which usually gets her running and have called her and had no response.
Im worried even if she does come back she won't be able to get in as I live in a first floor flat with security door - I've propped it open all day but will have to close it later on.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

Thanks for that, I've just done that with the litter and will go knocking doors once I have replied. No houses with garages but plenty with sheds so I just hope she is hiding inside. I just saw a few of the local young boys and asked them to look - I told them if they brought her back I'd give them £50 just as an incentive for them to look as well. After all the more people that know the better.
I just don't know if she will handle the cold & wet as she is only tiny and very timid. There are a few cats around the neighbourhood but none I've known to use our garden, but its possible I just haven't noticed.
Tbh Im just praying that she has been brave and gone into someones house & they're looking after her until rspca opens again tomorrow. But I know Im not going to sleep tonight worrying about her.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

Oh, another thing: just in case your babe has been scared away I'd cross that dual carriage-way and do some calling over there if you think that kitty could have crossed it.
I forgot to mention that I "lost" one of my darlings a long time ago and it was talking to the children in the street which got her back. Nearly six months later, after I'd given up hope of seeing my darling ever again I got a note through my door asking if I'd lost her as a couple had been looking after her as they thought she was a stray. It was the kids who'd told them who she was. Where they'd taken her in was about 100 yards down the street and I thought I'd covered every single possible base.0
