you have all the ingrediants to make home made pizza's also, including the dough mix - do you have a bread maker?

Tonight I'm doing a pizza dough in the bread maker, then putting some tomatoe puree on, slices of mushrooms, pepers, bacon bits, top with cheese and cook in the oven until the dough is golden brown.

    Hi All,

I'm new to this thread so please bear with me.
I only have to cook for myself but try to make 2 portions so I can freeze some. Always seem to spend a fortune at the supermarket so I've emptied the cupboard determined to use some items instead of just adding to them.

Ideas for recipes with some instructions would be gratefully received.

    3 tins tuna
    tin crabmeat
    tin sardines
    tin mackerel
    4 cans kidney beans
    2 cans flageolet beans
    can chick peas
    2 cans butterbeans
    2 cans sweetcorn
    instant miso soup
    plain and cornflour
    stock cubes
    marmite
    concentrated beef bouillon
    worcestershire sauce
    white wine vinegar
    sesame oil
    olive oil
    rice vinegar
    soya sauce
    balsamic vinegar
    wild rice
    carnaroli risotto rice
    breadcrumbs
    2 cans cannellini beans
    lots of tinned tomatoes
    el paso salsa
    2 tins prunes
    tin pineapple slices
    tin pear quarters
    tin mango slices
    tin peach slices
    canneloni tubes
    instant noodles
    meringue nest
    lasagne sheets
    wholewheat pasta
    pearl barley
    sesame seeds
    cous cous
    ground almonds
    pine nuts
    sultanas
    red lentils
    continental lentils
    split peas
    dried chickpeas
    dried exotic bean mix
    millet

    in the freezer
    chicken breasts
    lamb chop
    wholemeal pitta
    high bran bagels
    spinach
    minced lamb

Onions, mushrooms etc in the fridge and I have a selection of dried herbs and spices.

    Thanks
for your help, I'm off hunting to other posts for ideas as well.

You could make fishcakes using the tuna and/or crab meat, drained & mixed with crushed butterbeans (as an alternative to mashed potato) & a very finely chopped onion & a pinch of herbs. Shape into rounds, flour them on each side & fry. Should freeze fine once cooked & re-heat in the oven from frozen. serve with cous-cous flavoured with lemon jucie & herbs.

You could make a bean chilli using any combination of the tinned beans & pluses, drain & wash off any brine, add a chopped onion & tin of tomatos, maybe the beef bullion for a stonger flavour if you want & some chopped mushrooms & some chilli powder or similar. You could use a similar mix minus the chilli powder & maybe with a bit more veg & herbs for a veggie bean lasagne.

I have laso made a lentil lasagne in the past which was scrummy, much nicer than it sounds, basically lentils & mushroom! It was quite a smooth mix & I think you could use it to stuff the cannelloni tubes, then top with some tinned chopped up toms & a cheese sauce.

Chicken casserole using the exotic dried beans & peral barley with some veg thrown in.

    HTH;)

  • Would second lillibets idea of a bean chilli.

I have done a really nice lentil curry with lentils, onions and spices, we always go back for more. I will dig out the recipie if you want. Also done a chickpea and spinach curry, was quite good.

I often take some meat, chop up some onion, gather some beans along with some stock, bung it in the SC and a few hours later look at it and go that will do for tea tonight. Have also done it without meat and it tastes good! fantastic also for the winter.

    Mushroom risotto.

You could make the couscous up with the packet soup, it can make it more interesting! Have also make up couscous with a tin of chopped toms and some seasoning to have for lunch.

There is also the one of making a bolognaise with the mince and some of the lentils to bulk it out, you can then make lasagne and canneloni tubes.

Sorry i cant suggest anything for the fish, apart from maybe tuna and sweetcorn filling for a sarnie, as I dont do fish (or rather it doesnt do me!)

    Spicy Dal
8oz yellow split peas (i use a mixture of various lentils!)
    2onions chopped
    1 large bay leaf
    1 pt stock
    2tsp black mustard seeds
    2 tbsp melted butter
    1 garlic clove crushed
1 in fresh root ginger (i have often subd with ginger powder)
    1tsp ground turmeric
1 small green peper sliced (have only bothered with this once!)
1tsp garam masala or mild curry powder
3 toms peeled and chopped (have always subbed with a tin of chopped toms)
    s & p to taste

Put the lentils 1 onion and the bay leaf in the stock and simmer for 25 mins in a pan.
In a separate pan fry the mustard seeds in the butter for about 30 sec add the remaining onion, garlic, ginger and green pepper. soften for about 5 mins, add the remaining spices and fry for a few secs.
add the lentils, toms and a splash of water if needed. Simmer covered for 10 mins season and stir.

I have often added a little hot chilli powder to give it a bit of a kick at the end, but thats just me!
