    pies pies pies!
you can easily make your shortcrust pastry with flour, butter an egg. then use all fillings you like.... good opportunity to be creative... i would start with the cooked prawns and possible the tinned tuna and a white sauce.
then you could make a steak poie with the gravy granules.
alsoyou can make some pasta (home made: 1egg for every 100g of flour and a bit of olive oil, then roll out) and make your own ravioli fillings, again greativity is the key but mince meat would be a good starting base.... ooh i think i'm gonna do the same... sounds like fun!
  • I didn't know pasta was that easy to make! That's brilliant, I'm going to try that.

  • Very easy bacon pasta:

Spaghetti, cheese, onion, bacon, 1 egg, dried herbs (pref oregano or sage will do), chick stock(or wine)

Boil spaghetti, whilst boiling, sweat off onions and chopped bacon until soft and then add a little dried herbs, chicken stock/white wine.
Drain spaghetti and return into pan
Tip onion/bacon mix over spaghetti, sprinkle handful of grated cheese and stir through.
Beat egg lightly in a cup and poor over hot spaghetti.
Turn spaghetti over - heat will cook the egg mix
Serve immediately with warm bread and tomato salad.

Its my fastest meal - you can make this in 7 minutes!

  • Am trying to think of way to use your biscuits. How about custard topped pear flan?

    Custard:
    600ml/1 pint full-fat milk
    4 drops of vanilla essence
    3 eggs, yolks only
    2 tsp cornflour
    25g/1oz sugar

    Flan:
Pears - drained and sliced into smaller slices
    Crushed biscuits
    4 oz butter

    Method

    Base
Melt Butter gently in a saucepan. Once melted, remove from heat and add biscuits. Coat biscuits and use mix to line a flan dish. Chill in fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Arrange pear slices over biscuit mix and return to the fridge.

    Custard topping
    1. Heat the milk with the vanilla essence until just boiling.
    2. Mix together the egg yolks, sugar and cornflour to get a smooth paste.
    3. Pour over the milk and stir well. Remove, wash and dry the vanilla pod to re-use in another recipe.
    4. Strain the mixture back into a clean saucepan and, stirring constantly, cook gently until the custard thickens.
    5. Take off heat but continue stirring until the custard cools down (stops skin forming).
    6. When not too hot, top pear flan with custard. Place back in fridge to set.

    Sprinkle crushed biscuits on top.
    _____

Use the leftover egg whites beaten with sugar to make meringue, bake and then top with chopped drained pears.

  • I really dislike custard...but I might have a go at it and give it to the OH's parents!

  • just use the crushed biscuits (with a bit of melted butter) to make a crumble topping to go with the pears, in the oven for 5-10 min

  • with the potatoes it depends on how much time you wish to put towards creating a dish.
    1. jacket potato with various fillings - mince/onion/bolognaise sauce; any basic tomato based sauce with a touch of garlic and some herbs and throw in some veg/meat of choice
    2. roast potato or grilled chunky chips
    3. rosti with bacon
    4. creamy mash using cheese
    5. potato salad

HM garlic bread using bread/garlic and herbs

  • Going well so far...haven't even spent any money!

Used up the bacon this morning as I had a bacon sarnie for breakfast, then used up the leftover turkey and veg soup for lunch.

I've got the sausages in the slow cooker making me a lovely smelling casserole with the potato, carrots, onion in stock flavoured with herbs and tomato puree.

I mushed up the pears in a blender over lunch with some apples I found, so will try using that crumble topping idea with the biscuits!

Thanks everyone, you're being really helpful.

This is quick and easy, uses up tuna or bacon (or anything else you want), and apparently kids love it (I don't have any, so I don't know). Comes from the BBC Goodfood magazine

    Feeds 4 - easily halved

    Tuna Melt potato wedges

    750g frozen potato wedges
    4 tbsp mayonnaise
    1 small onion chopped small
    100g grated cheese
2 x 160g cans tuna steaks OR 1 pack back bacon chopped and cooked

    1. Heat oven to 220C.

    2. Tip the potato wedges onto a large baking sheet, ensuring they sit in a single layer. Bake for 10 minutes.

    3. Meanwhile, mix together the mayonnaise, onion, cheese and tuna OR bacon.

    2. Tip the potato wedges into an ovenproof dish and spoon the mixture over the top. Pop back into the oven for a further 12 minutes, until bubbling.
Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate! :)
