Last year, following my pre Christmas shop I managed to last until mid march before I went food shopping again. That also included cleaning and personal hygiene products. I'm going to try and do it again in 2010 I have 2 freezers and a store cupboard quite full. I usually try to run down my stocks enough to switch off one freezer by about April/May time. One of my freezers is a small upright with 2 drawers and a let down top and bottom section, kept in the garage and the other is one side of an 'American' style fridge freezer (acquired with the house) with open shelves and badly designed because lots of things fall out. I do my best with it.

I will let you know how I get on.

well thats me done for the year old mother hubbard here :) the freezer is defrosting as i type as we went away for Christmas so i didnt stock up with goodies, which is a blessing since ive weighed myself yesterday and had a bit of a shock.
so the plan is to now to restock the freezer a little better this time around and get into the habbit of using up before buying im still planning to cut my shopping bill down with some careful menu planning as i pretty much stuck to my £30 a week with fullish cupboards, so determined to spend no more than £185 for 5 (my child benefit a month) which i reckon is do-able as long as i stay out of the supermarket.
well id best go get a packet of peas to scatter in the bottom of my freezer doesnt seem to matter how well i pack the freezer when i come to defrost it there is always half a pack of loose peas welded to the bottom one of lifes mysteries i suppose.

Lynz I got some of those clips from Poundland or poundworld something like that :rotfl: I was using pegs but I got sick of them popping off the bags! Not had anything "leak" in the freezer since. I also got some "pour & store" bags from HomeBargains which I'm hoping to store homemade soup in :D
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Pour and store bags are fab-I use them to freeze stews, chilli and bolognase etc. I don't freeze soup in them as its too runny and I don't trust my overpacked freezer not to make it burst when I squeeze it in :rotfl:
Soup I freeze in old cream and yoghurt pots (300ml cream-single portion, 500g yoghurt-2 people or my greedy OH lol)

I have to join in the store cupboard challenge, I cannot actually fit anything else in my freezer at the moment (made 2 spare potato gratins on wednesday and they have JUST about fit in, and the leftover curry from last night (it was NYE, we caved and got a takeaway:o) is squished in and may have exploded overnight (I'm scared to look:eek:)

Plan is to use up stuff from fridge first, and will have to stay well away from waitrose reductions.... Am hoping to get away with buying just veg and dairy this month, nothing else. But if napolina tomatoes go on offer again, you may have to hold me back (despite still having about 20 tins, I start to get edgy below that amount:o:rotfl:)

I'm not sure if I should list my stocks though-would probably take a whole page

those are the ones that I've got and they're really good - I always recommend them to people.

I also have one of those JML things for re-sealing plastic bags - the little hand-held one NOT the big one: http://www.jmldirect.com/Handy-Seal-PH4885/ - brill for when you've got large packs of crisps/tortilla chips/cereals/frozen veggies.

For freezing home-made stews/chillis/curries etc, I use 1kg margarine tubs and 500g tubs for soups. Once frozen, they stack perfectly AND you can write on the lids with permanent markers/cd labelling pens .
