Just thought I would mention for anyone that doesn't know . BEST BEFORE usually doesn't mean that the item has gone off, but it may not be at it's best, but is usually safe to eat after this date. USE BY dates are for safety reasons and food should not be consumed after this date here .Thrown away plenty of things, in my time ,that would have been fine if only I had known

Wow let us know what that cake is like, sounds wonderful. Id have never of thought of a sweet dish for it :j

We are now back and I am now equipped with 2 brand new flasks. Im in the office all day tomorrow so wont need them as I am cooking lunch ( jamie beef & cheese pie, roasted veg, peas) I have whipped up a quick jamaican ginger loaf cake which Ive tasted and is fab ( from the new Reggae reggae book.

Tonight we are having chicken burgers ( HM) with HM oven chips. Tomorrow we will use the lettuce by having Peri chicken ( from freezer) and frying with some veg and having fajitas with sour cream. I want to spend as little time in the Kitchen as poss- its freezing down there!

When I can bear to stand in the Kitchen for more than 5 mins I need to empty out all stores and start planning it in.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Evening (sorry, morning :o) all

After a bit of a blunder with the roast dinner meat (we pulled something out thinging it was a decent roasting joint...) we ended up with roast veg and potatoes with sausages.

We now have 3 really fat, decent butchers sausages left and I'm out of inspiration. My first thoughts were a sausage pasta bake - any other ideas anyone could throw at me please? It's for 2 adult, a 6 year old and 2 year old

    Thank you

I love making sausage meatballs-remove the meat from skin, form into little balls and fry with sliced onions, add a couple tins tomatoes, some peppers and simmer until sauce reduced. Serve with pasta, or mix with cooked pasta, top with cheese and bake (making meatballs from the sausages makes the portions seem more generous :) )

    Hi

I am going to join up with this as my cupboards and freezers are well stocked (read overstocked lol). I have done an inventory of all the kitchen cupboards, my fridge freezer and the cupboard under the stairs (like a pantry as its lovely and cool in the summer and winter) and have loads of things that have BBE in either 2009 or early 2010. The chest freezer in the garage has yet to be inventoried but I will hopefully get that done on Thursday.

My plan is to try and eat as much as I can from the freezers and cupboards but I will buy bargins if I see them as in the long term they are savings.

Today I took a portion of HM curry for me and HM curry for DS from the freezer for tea tonight. I also used up a tin of soup for lunch from the cupboard. But I added in some bargins from Sainsbugs today to the freezer in the garage but as I haven't inventoried that yet I'm not counting it lol :o.

I am going to try and do a meal plan later and see what I can use up this week.

I also have some veg in the fridge which I need to cook off before it goes off so will do that when I am doing the tea tonight and then it can be frozen in portions for nights when I am working.

    Hi all,

Back with you all after the Christmas break. Got lots I need to use up in the freezer/storecupboard  so aiming to make some space over the next few weeks.

I used up some glace cherries and almonds leftover from making the xmas cake yesterday and made some individual cherry and almond cup cakes. I had to freeze most of them to make sure I didn't eat them all in one go  ! hahaha :rotfl:

I've also got some stem ginger in a pot - does anyone know how long it will keep? Or any ideas what I can make with it? All suggestions welcomed

I'll try and read back over the thread this evening once kiddies have gone to bed - clootie dumpling is on the recipe for tomorrow - best only have a small piece though, I think it's rather fattening :D and I'm back on WW diet so trying to be good ;).

  • Felt quite pleased with myself yesterday as we used up a jar of hotdog sausages for lunch that had been lurking in the cupboard since goodness knows when and then I concucted my own beef stir fry from the left over beef from News Year Day. I asked my oh whether he wanted the beef accompanied with rice noodles which were 2 months out of date or egg noodles that were in date & he said the egg noodles, definitely. I then had a rethink and said "forget that I asked that actually. We ARE having the out of date rice noodles!" Which we did, which were fine and which he ate!
