Definitely living on the contents of the fridge, freezer and cupboards. No eggs, not a large quantity of milk, but enough for a day or two, plus powdered.

Made some mushroom soup today from mushrooms in the fridge, plus an onion, chicken stock from the freezer. Did a freezer audit this afternoon.

Dinner is planned. Jacket potato. I shall have salad, kids will have baked beans AND cheese AND coleslaw! Did too much cornflour for the soup at lunchtime so have made some chocolate pudding. Must remember to do an extra potato for dd to take for packed lunch tomorrow.

Need a plan for the rest of the week. This should be good for the food budget!

I was too ill to go to work today, feel really run down, sneezy, heavy-headed. :( Hoping tomorrow will be better :o

I have however whipped up some granary rolls and a quick Leek & potato soup. I have roasted & stripped the chicken legs for a risotto in a bit.

I am browsing around to find a recipe for some cookies or similar as I want to give the kenwood chef a whirl and I am really starving :o

Braved the baltics outside and did an inventory of the stuff in my chest freezer in the garage so now I know everything I have in. Also in the garage I have some extra tins of soup, sauces, juice etc which we buy in bulk but don't always have room for in the house lol, and I frequently forget what's out there. At least now I know so just a case of making sure that I keep a note of what I use or add - easy

    Today have used

    breakfast - cereals (both)
lunch - brie and cranberry sandwich (just me) only a small bit of the xmas brie to go
dinner - DS lamb kebabs, potato waffles and brocolli
Me - woopsied sirloin steak (bought today:o), waffles and brocolli, mashed turnip and a half packet of pepper sauce left over from a couple of weeks ago.

Unfortunately I also added to the freezer 3 x sirloin steaks (pack of 4 reduced to £4 in tesco) and 6 packs of 2 x cumberland sausages (on offer 12 sausages for £2). I will also have some portions of mashed turnip and braised red cabbage to go in the freezer once it has been cooled and bagged. These were veggies left over from xmas/new year which I finally got round to cooking today - part of my waste not want not campaign.

Sounds like me - I'll be off ill and then be more active than if I as sat at my desk in work!

Mr Shortie said to me tonight 'If you were told to rest for 24 hours, you wouldn't be able to do it would you..??' I really, really couldn't disagree. I can't sit still for love nor more. If I'm sat down I'm on the computer, otherwise I'm up doing things :rotfl:

Well the kenwood chef did most of it today lol

I have to say I feel fortified from all this eating :o I made peanut cookies from Hamlyn family recipes, texture- bang on! I am jsut so thrilled I have never made cookies before that were edible :rotfl: usually a scorched tray is what comes out with some lumps of charred flour. sigh!

No i cant keep still either, I had a broken leg once omg i was awful, couldn't do anything for 3 months

I think the Philly cheese will work just fine. I had to do a similar thing recently and apart from it atsting a little saltier perhaps, it was fine.

Does anyone have any ideas for using chilli dipping sauce or Nam Pla fish sauce? I have a bottle of each in fridge which I have had for a while although I cannot read the use by dates on either.

Its not really a meal idea... More of a snacky thing...
Small crackers, or oatcake, with philly cheese.. the plain variety, topped with a little chilli dipping sauce.
But it is very nice :D

I 'decluttered' my Mum's Cheese Straws over a film last night and ot made me wonder what the leftover wensleydale and chive cheese would be like made into cheese straws..

Anyone ever tried making them with cheese other than plain ol' cheddar?

I could maybe venture into making them with the cranberry cheese too...

I made them with white stilton with apricots and used my cranberry cheese for a cake which tasted yummy.

  • Hello everyone  I'm decluttering my freezer again :o but I won't be making a full inventory until I can go outside without needing wellies, 7 layers, hat and gloves :D

Today I've used the turkey carcase to make stock. This will be made into minestrone soup tomorrow.

I've also used a packet of prawns, some Thai curry paste and half a can of coconut milk to make a curry for supper.
