I've also got some stem ginger in a pot - does anyone know how long it will keep? Or any ideas what I can make with it? All suggestions welcomed
Is it in a plastic pot, like glace cherries come in? Or a jar in syrup?
Either way I guess it will keep ages!
I would suggest stem ginger chunky cookies. I haven't got a recipe Ive used yet but there's a few on Jamieoliver.com forum here: http://www.jamieoliver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=30581
I have taken out a stew from the freezer and a block of pastry- will make a pie and roasties. Also found a tupperware with some HM mincemeat in. Im going to make some sort of tartlet with the mincemeat and use up some cointreau butter with it I randomly bought in sains the other day as it was 10p
I have equipped myself with cupasoup, Quick tea and flask of water today, I have a very long drive in-store to East Anglia and I know its going to be cold. Will stop for bread as forgot to put BM on last night ( annoying)
Will do a stores inventory tonight as prob need some advice as on how to use it all without spending anything - would lvoe to avoid food shopping for the next week if poss. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Not sure whether my store cupboard challenge is going well or not - DD and I have had the winter v&d bug so haven't eaten properly for nearly a week  Today is the first time we've been able to both eat breakfast. So all the food I got in for a buffet for New Year is still in the fridge/freezer/cupboards so we'll be having that Friday night I think as we're both finally on the mend. This weeks shopping is going to be mainly replacing cleaning stuff, I don't think I need much else at allCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

Right so the plan for the sausages (already cooked) is a sausage and bean pasta bake. Goodness knows what it'll taste like but it'll have the sausages (naturally :rotfl:), garden leeks as I'm out of onions, a tin of Campbells condensed winter veg soup, a tin of kidney beans and a tin of butter beans in it. Depending how it's looking, I might pop a tin of chopped tomatoes in to
I'm going to make it for tomorrow night's dinner so if I don't post ever again after that, then you know there were problems :rotfl:April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

Feeling rather virtuous. I have done a phenomenal SC inventory ( I wont bore you!).
I have whipped up a steak pie using puff pastry and some frozen stew & roast pots & peas. ( almost ready) I found a tupperware with hM mincemeat in and Ive defosted that & used that in a pastry case with some chopped pecans & stem ginger & spice. Im going to serve this with the random Cointreau butter.
Have defrosted 2 chicken quarters and tomorrow will make risoto using HM stock, mushrooms, chicken, leeks, garlic & creme fraiche.
Also have a fruit loaf in the BM and will have that for breakfast toasted tomorrow.
Have to say special thanks to those who insisted I took flask. Toda I took it for the1st time this year and was sat out in the snow when I realised Id left mypurse in a petrol station, over 2 hours drive away. I was just so thankful for that cupasoup!
Tomorrow im heating this tin of soup thats been there ages and taking that in the food flask and cup a soups. I have a few things I need to stash in the van ( crisps, choc from selection boxes) just in case I get stuck in the snow in my rounds over the next few days.
Must say Im feeling like the store cupboard can last ages as I really have prepped well. Its not started here in london yet - its reported its going to be bad :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Managed to use up 2 eggs (eggy bread for my brekkie), 2 rashers of bacon (DS brekkie), 4 small HM sausage rolls and 2 scotch pancakes (DS lunch), Duck spring rolls and chilli sauce (my lunch), 2 fillets of fish, chips and some peas (me and DS dinner)followed by rhubarb and ginger pudding today .
Good start to using up leftovers as the Best Before date for the eggs was today, bacon was left over from Sunday's brekkie, 8 mini duck spring rolls left over from the other half packet I cooked on new years eve, the remains of a bottle of chilli sauce (only 2 bottles to go:p) and 2 pancakes that had been left over from yesterday.0
