pammy if i can handle the meatballs you are in luck!! i might make them tonight now LOL you have put me in the mood for them.

I agree, the easiest recipe, chuck it all together give it a mix and make the meatballs nothing could be simpler so Pammy give it a go and see how you get on. In our house we usually try a recipe for the first time exactly as it says and then on the next occasion alter and tweak it a bit to our tastes.

I loved this thread - it really made me smile. I was going out with a fella in the summer and he was a nightmare . There was a bloke in my local library at the same time whose face used to light up like a xmas tree whenever he used to spot me. I got to know him over several months.....and we ended up having a cup of tea and sharing some of my homemade cakes....
Lets just say Mr Nightmare got the big heave-ho, and Mr Cake is now not only going out with me, he's living with me as well. And enjoying my cooking (or so he tells me, the bloody liar).

A dinner I do is cook a small pan of home-made vegetable chilli, put it on a pile of those cheapie 50p a bag tortillas chips and top it with sour cream, pickled jalepanos and grilled bits of bacon. I'll do a jacket spud each if we're quite hungry. It's quite light so we don't end up nodding off......(We're having this tonight...)
    Hope that helps....
    Lol.

Aww thanks Sassers, it is nice to hear that you found your man - they do say they come along when you are not looking and that happened with mine too, it was a remark about liking The Jam music and we hit it off straight away. I said in an earlier post we are taking it slow as we have both recently come out of long marriages so it is nice to be just dating at the moment, who knows what the future holds but we are both of the opinion that marriage is not to be considered again lol once bitten twice shy and all that x

Aww bless - that's lovely. Isn't it funny what set our OH's off? Mr Cake's a proper valleys boy, who heard my dulcet tones in the library (I'm as cockney as they come) as I was having the crack and laughing very loudly and that was what started it and brought him over to chat....
    Big lol

Pork chops with apple and sage and onion, put everything in the SC or casserole dish in the oven. When cooked stir in some single cream and season well. Serve with creamy mash or new potatoes in their skins and steamed veg.

Don't know if you've ever made peppered steak but it's my favourite and I still can't believe how easy it is. My husbands brother is a chef and showed me. You cook the steaks in a pan and then throw in some brandy and take the brownings off the bottom of the pan, grind some black pepper and add some white pepper then stir in some single cream. Thats it!

I'd like to join in this month, please. OH has just been made redundant again for the 2nd time this year :( However, we do have full stores, so I've inventoried the freezer (the only thing I didn't really know what was in - the cupboards I'm ok with) - I found 15 pieces of steak alone! (and 2 whole chickens, 8 breasts, 1.5kg steak moince, 1kg pork mince - you get the picture!!) I'm not looking for meal ideas as yet, just focus to ensure I use things up and don't spend too much. As stores go down, though, I will probably need some menu ideas! I've already decided I'm going to do the lemon cream/ berry coulis thing from Economy Gastronomy when we have friends round next week, cos everyone seems to rave about it!! :D I do need a couple more lemons, but that's not too bad. OH suggested cottage pie (I normally go way over the top when we have friends round for food, but this keeps it simple and we have 90% of the stuff already in - yippee!!)

Looking forward to my stores reducing and you guys helping me keep on track - I've been following this thread for a couple of weeks, but this is my first post

So how do you do your meatballs?
Have read a few versions. some say soak the bread and then mix it with the mince, some say break the bread up and add egg, Jamie oliver version is to crush crackers and add them??

I need a very easy idiots guide lol,
think will try with the egg and bread and mince, will make them and brown them and then add them to a sauce mix in the SC I think but wont try til next week now as I have freezer batch meals already for next week. Think the kids will like to help make them and it might make them eat it more if they do them themselves :)

Glad it went ok last night Heffi, its nice to have that butterflies feeling isnt it :)

What I did was to add all of the ingredients along with the egg into a bowl and in my case the mix was very wet so added breadcrumbs until the mix held together but was not too soggy, it still needs to be I would say damp is the best way of describing it, then form into balls and set aside to cook, I browned them and lots of water came out cos mince had been frozen, then added to dish with sauce and cooked for about half hour in oven. I hope that helps
