Store cupboard challenge

Root veg are traditonally stored outside buried under a load of soil, aren't they? so I would think it will be fine.
I find that if I get swedes, cabbage, root veg they keep very well in the bottom of the fridge."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

nopot2pin - I'm with you - I would definitely have thrown the veg away. I prefer the only protein in my meal to be the stuff I put there on purpose! _pale_ It might be worth mentioning it to someone next time you're in Lidl, so they know there's a problem (and you never know, you might get a freebie out of it, too - some places will do this if they think it will make you less likely to complain
).
XSpender - I think your swede will be OK - swedes seem to last pretty much indefinitely in my experience. If it's not going soft or growing a fur coat then it's fine!
It looks like my freezer situation is not as desperate as I thought - I took a load of ice packs out this morning to return them to the veg box company, and found that this left me with nearly a whole empty shelf. This challenge is actually working! :jBack after a very long break!0 -
Had the Roast Chicken last night, used up some veg from the bottom of the fridge too. Didn't have anything for pudding as was too tired.
Tonight is chicken fried rice using left over chicken, eggs and stray veg.
Have decided that I MUST make the fish pie tomorrow or I will have cream going off etc... It will get rid of a fair bit of fish from the freezer too...
Still hoping to have guests on Saturday so we can use up loads of bits and bobs...we will see...Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/poultry-and-game/chicken/chicken-basque.html it's this one. I only had one chicken breast. So used a couple of pork shoulder slices from the freezer plus the chorizo was 200g. Used tomatoes in oil as that is what I had. used the oil to fry the onions and peppers in. I found it took more liquid, maybe because I used white long grain rice.
I don't use the orange and only use the olives if the kids aren't around."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I have been exceptionally BAD today
I have been to Asda........ AND Costco
1, 2, 3, Lets begin again
don't feel bad, last night i made another approved foods order
but most of it won't clutter up the house for too long, i decided to treat us to a mostly junk food order :T:o:p
the way i looked at it was like this... i can go for about a week with no junk food before i finally go to the store and then tend to do a huge binge shop and then buy even more stuff i hadn't planned on buying on top of that... really it's a moneysaver, erm yeah that's it:D

well i havent posted in a while and hope everyone is now better, ive been doing quite well on my £30 a week budget tho spent £8 on deodorant alone this week. its helped that my mother and me have been doing the morrisons £25 deal between us and we been spliting the bogof's.
My freezer's not looking too healthy and there is no meat left other than sausages for the kids so will restock early december and plan the kids meat meals for 4 weeks, as we are away for Christmas i dont plan a big shop until the new year, still have a load of random cupboard stuff any ideas anyone?
Tori's random stuff
red lentels
pearl barley
baked beans
pasta
brown rice
egg noodles
plum toms
i have all the spices &herbs known to man i think
flour (both)
dumpling mix
dried sos mix.
i have a load of fresh/frozen veg and some veggie mince & fish in the freezer.
my lot are a bit curried out at the moment, and ive also been told no more sausage cassorole,

You could do a macaroni pudding - like rice pudding but with pasta. My mum used to make this when I was a kid, although I can't tell you what it tastes like - I've never liked milk-based puddings myself, so I've never tasted it.
If your family have had enough sausage casserole you could try a veggie-based one instead, and add some of the red lentils for bulk. If you fancied some dumplings on the top that would use up the pack of dumpling mix, too.Back after a very long break!0 -

Ingredients:
Virtually fat free fromage frais
light mayo (or normal - whatever you prefer)
garlic clove - finely chopped
green part of a spring onion - sliced
1-2 tsp lemon juice
Black pepper
Method:
To make the same quantity as a normal dip container, mix 8 heaped tsps of fromage frais and 4 rounded tsps of mayo in a bowl (doesn't have to be precise, just roughly half and half - though I find a little less mayo is good), add garlic, spring onion, garlic, lemon and black pepper to taste and mix well. Makes quite a potent dip. NB: Don't make too far in advance as it matures well and may well blow your head off - (this doesn't bother me and my friends, but some may find the garlic too strong) - up to 2 hours before serving is fine.
Enjoy!Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016
