but most of it won't clutter up the house for too long, i decided to treat us to a mostly junk food order :T:o:p

the way i looked at it was like this... i can go for about a week with no junk food before i finally go to the store and then tend to do a huge binge shop and then buy even more stuff i hadn't planned on buying on top of that... really it's a moneysaver, erm yeah that's it ;):D
    :rotfl:
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that!

Well at least you won't run out!:D I worry when I hear that people have none left! I seem to have worked my way through a fair bit of my pasta mountain and am considering buying more - feeling a bit panicky that I only have one full bag of fusilli left. Although, I have more decanted into a storage jar, not to mention lasagne, spaghetti etc so no fear of running out of pasta just yet!:p
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Sorry i possibly didn't punctuate it - it was apple, butternut squash and lentil soup!

Roast up a BN squash and 3-4 apples with the cores taken out. I drizzled on some oil and sprinkled some cumin and curry powder on and a little salt and pepper before roasting.

Chuck in a pot with some stock (chicken/veg) and a couple of handfuls of lentils. Bring to the boil and simmer, skimming the scum off the top. I leave it on really low for a couple of hours usually. Blend and season to taste!

Just really made it up - very sweet, filling and tasty. Freezes well too :j

That sounds gorgeous - thanks for the recipe! Do you rinse your lentils before adding them?

I don't! Although I am probably supposed to! I had BN squash one day and some dying apples which started it. Then i added lentils to thicken , it tastes different each time. Very much throw in kind of recipe. You can always thin it out by adding more stock, or thicken by adding more lentils.

Mental note *must start rinsing lentils*. I wonder will that stop the scum forming? Yummy anyway!

Don't see why not - have never substituted myself, but should work out ok - let me know?

Just a note about the fromage frais - if you can get a small pot it will make approx 2 helpings of dip and as its VFF it lasts for weeks in the fridge (even past the use by date, it just refuses to go off!)

But let me know about the yoghurt sub - always good to have an alternative.

Oh well I'm quite new to lentils so am still obediently following the instructions on the pack but it would be so handy to just chuck them straight in. Since it's worked for you so far I'll give it a whirl! I was wondering where you got the idea, I'd never have thought of it. Just goes to show what an inspiration using up what you've got can be! I'll defo be trying this one.

I dont know what to make for tea.

I have a cooked chicken ( rubber) that either has to be used tonight or shredded and frozen.

I mentioned cury, but I quite fancy chicken & sweetcorn soup, prawn cracker, mini spring rolls from the freezer. Im sure though his highness wont think that is "proper" as its not big enough for him.

I will also try to do the danish apple cake tonight- if I can be bothered ( I tihnk i can)

For any londoners around - dont know if there are any- I managed to get myself to Walthamstow market on my lunch hour. My oh my, there would be some great bargs for us MSErs. 3 pineapples for a pound, 8 ( count them) packs of mangetout & babycorns and 6 mangos for £1. I couldnt carry them so I left them all there. Walthamstow market seems cheaper in the week than weekends, I didnt tihnk it was possible. :rotfl: also 10 cabbages for £1.

I was busy thinking "what can I make & freeze with those"

I must say I feel so much better with this storecup challenge, and thanks to all for being so welcoming :D Im not specifically doing it for the money, but I was getting bored with the same things over and over- and this definately works for that!

Today I snapped and bought a bag of pecans and a bag of Brazils.

I stumbled upon this recipe, and I think something exciting other than the usual banana bread ( can you believe I havent made yet)
http://www.ocado.com/webshop/recipe/banana-baileys-brazil-nut-brul-e/1894 now just need a new bottle of bailieys

Its an alternative to this thing I bought in Eat once- dont ask the price!!
Sliced bananas, honey ( I obv use some of the random nutmeg syrup as well ;) ) natural yoghurt, topped with grape nuts. ( the cereal) OMG so simple but this is a gorg recipe, and slightly healthy too! I did it wth coconut yog as well and that was lush!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Let me know if you like it! I hope you do.... :p Two years ago I would have binned the apples and never bought BN squash. Oh how times change!

I have never rinsed the lentils for soups or stews or spag bol etc - i just measure by the handful!:D
