Let me know if you like it! I hope you do.... :p Two years ago I would have binned the apples and never bought BN squash. Oh how times change!

I have never rinsed the lentils for soups or stews or spag bol etc - i just measure by the handful!:D
Well now I know nothing ghastly will happen I don't think I'll ever bother rinse a lentil again! I had my No Waste Lightbulb Moment relatively recently but would have been guilty of chucking old apples in the past - not any more though!.
What would you do with 10 cabbages! Even with my ever emptying freezer ther would just be cabbage in it! I suppose if you were on the cabbage soup diet, but you sure would empty everywhere you went after eating 10! Gino D'Acampo would be horrified, LOL! ( he said he hated women that f*rt on I'm a celeb and won't talk to his wife for a day after she does - well it would be a quiet house here, apart from constant trumping to annoy him!)

I love cabbage fried or I wonder could you mix it with mashed potato and butter in a sort of colcannon-y way?

And then there is the larder itself. 18 cans of tomatoes (definitely a candidate for tinned toms anon),
:T:D Welcome! I was similar to you with lots of tinned tuna as well! Good to know you've so much food in so you'll be able to save lots in December. Best of luck using up what you've got!

I've had a lovely dinner - rainbow trout from freezer with frozen spinach and HM potato wedges. Am very pleased with myself as it's the first time I ever made wedges that weren't rock hard in the middle.

Also used up half of the Lidl bread mix but that was unsuccessful. It didn't rise after kneading but I whacked it in the oven anyway and it's the same size as when it went in. :o Made some flapjacks but haven't sampled them yet - any minute now though!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I know that feeling - I've never been able to make bread by hand, either from a packet or from scratch. I really don't know why!

Today hasn't been good storecupboard-wise - I haven't used anything up and ended up buying some filo-wrapped prawns which have ended up in the freezer for future use. :o

On the plus side, I did help use up a pack of mince pies at work today. I suspect that doesn't count, though!:o
Back after a very long break!

:rotfl: You can never have too many tins of tomatoes, they're just soooo useful! I have just the 6 tins in this week, and I regularly get through 4 in a week, in different recipes.

I was down to only 17 tins, so bought 4 more tins this week :D

DD and I had leek and potato soup, with English muffins for lunch :T

For supper we've had baked Camembert (brought back from France) and mussels.

I've taken some stock from the freezer to make parsnip and apple soup for lunch tomorrow.

    Penny. x

  • I went for a manicure and pedicure, leg wax, upper lip wax, underarm wax, eyebrow shaping, and eyelash tinting this afternoon. Well, a girl has to indulge herself occasionally. The salon is near to the local coop so, having not been food shopping for 4 weeks, I thought I would see if there were any bargains. I spent just over £11 and bought a half price large gammon joint for £5, reduced new pots for 35p, cans of diet coke on buy one get one free to keep for Christmas, reduced pack of baby bels as my step grandson loves them and is staying with me next Sat, 4 cans of John West tuna for £2 and 1 can of mushy peas for 20p.

I didn't NEED any of it but it's hard to ignore bargains and none of it will go to waste. I will cook the gammon joint with dried peas, soaked overnight beforehand, creating lots of portions of pea and ham soup, as well as ham for sandwiches and ham and peas with mashed potatoes.

    Ok. Im saying this now.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. ( no, it really is enough).

I cant even start to list what weve got but it was supplemented today with of course Home bargains, plus found a netto ( I havent been to one of these in years- wow- SO cheap!)and I had a couple of bags of ambiet gear from Farmfoods from yesterday.

I did get stuff I needed- I am now the proud owner of a large stockpile of tortilla chips ;) and a lot of bags of mulled wine spice pouches ;) I did buy dates though, as they are called for in so many recipes and Ive never had them really before, I dont think Ive ever bought them ( although I have eaten them in cakes whilst out) .

My cupboards are literally FULL. Its shameful really! But I feel safe for now. :D

I probably need to start meal planning this lot, but I like the randomness of the stuff Ive knocked up recently!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Thanks CCP, I feel a bit better about it now! Well done on "using up" the mince pies - I find I'm much more successful at that sort of thing! :D

:rotfl: I'm pretty sure there are corner shops with less stock than you have Penny!

Soup base and soup stock from the freezer for dinner tonight. Was so thick, almost a stew really.

Plum and gingerbread pudding with the plums from the freezer. Mmm that was nice.

    Tomorrow, salmon from the freezer.

Eventually got to Mr m today for petrol, cash and shopping for the things I've been unable to get in ALdi when doing my little bits of shopping. Got a few bits at ALdi as well. Mr M was manic, Aldi calm and quiet and pleasant.

Have got some good deals - not helping the freezer, but got 10 tubs of flora buttery at about half price, also reduced pineapples and baby onions, 3 for price of one pringles to put aaway for christmas, pepsi to hide for Christmas, wholemeal flour, OJ for parents' brekkie, muller yogs on 2 for one. Oil and milk powder to last till new. 2 turkey legs for boxing day as DH will expect cold turkey and I'm not cooking on Christmas day, going to family.

I think most stuff was a good deal and definitely useable or stuff that I will definitely need shortly. I still have about £100 to last till the end of the year, so will need to concentrate hard on this. I have enough bread, spread, UHT, cereals, cheese and all the meat and fish I need. Need to get dairy, fruit and veg. A few snacky things for Christmas. Keen to try and meet the challenge.
