samanthaneww2d - I think you can use gram flour to make fritters (which is all onion bhajis are, now I come to think of it). I'm not sure what else you can use it for, though. With the soups, all I can think of is to cook some soup pasta (or broken up normal pasta) and add that to the made-up soup - it will make it a bit more substantial, at least.

There will be nothing coming out of my storecupboard today - there's a surprising amount of meat on the ham joint I cooked yesterday and it will take me a few days to eat through it, even with help from the cat. Tonight it (the ham, not the cat) will get cooked up with onions, wrapped in suet pastry and baked in the oven - nice solid stuff for a cold autumn day! :D

Just as an update, I tried Xspender's butterscotch pudding over the weekend, and can strongly recommend it. I used sliced cooking apple for the fruit bit, and used honey rather than brown sugar in the sauce, and brown sugar rather than white in the sponge*, and it was lovely - toffee apple cake!

    * note to self - check you've got enough sugar before you start cooking next time...:o
Back after a very long break!

After doing the buffet, I now have a completely empty fridge freezer upstairs, so now its time to defrost and get it all sorted ready for Christmas food and drink!

Fridge in kitchen is pretty much empty too apart from a couple of leftovers from the sandwich making and some veggies in the drawer.

Other freezer is still pretty stuffed, but should be able to make a hole in that this week as all meals are coming out of there starting with Pies tonight.

Haven't made the soup out of the frozen veg yet - think that might be a job for tomorrow evening.

Really enjoying posting on this thread - giving me loads of focus for the challenge - thanks to all!

I'd do a mushroom risotto and if you have any corianderor carrot soup to use the carrots or carrot type veg fritters
you could do a cheese sauce with the cream cheese and serve with the pasta and make a mexican type sauce with the jalapenos peppers and enchilado sauce and serve with the brown rice
    maybe a veg casserole?
I am a bit new to this myself but am sure you will get lots of useful suggestions on here
    good luck

How many are you cooking for? Have you got herbs/spices etc...

    Meat Ideas:

Cut the pork chops into strips and stir fry with teriyaki sauce with mushrooms & carrots and serve with brown rice.

Split your 4 loin pork chops in to 2 - make a spanish/mexican sauce with frozen mixed peppers, onions and enchilada sauce and serve with either cous cous or brown rice.

The other two, you could make a mushroom/cream cheese/onion/dijon mustard sauce?

    Veg Ideas:

Carrot and Swede Soup (use some celery and onions in the base) cook in some stock from a cube and whizz until smooth.

Make a veggie stew using your frozen casserole veg, tinned lentils and baby pots - if you have herbs and spices, use these to flavour it up.

Rissotto with mushrooms, onions, peas and sweecorn.

Roast some carrots, peppers & onions and add to cous cous made with stock from a cube and some butter added for flavour and maybe a few chopped jalapenos for heat.

Pasta sauce with cream cheese and mushrooms.

    Hope this helps.

  • Well, I managed to resist Costco this weekend :j, unfortunately I went to Morrisons instead and they had soooo much reduced stuff I couldn't resist :o : Black puddings - 29p each, Sprats - just over £1 per 1/2 kilo, A tray of pork loin chops - £3, huge pieces of cod - £2 etc.

Anyway, this weekend I have used up:

Freezer: Pastry, 3 sausages, the rest of the frozen peas
Cupboard: Balsamic vinegar, Jar of Mincemeat, Mustard powder

Tonights tea will be breaded cod and oven chips and a tin of vegetables (Not sure which yet!)

I still haven't tried that butterscotch cake yet, but its on my list of things to make this week.
