I think Im now reaching the end of edibles in our pantry :D

Last night was supposed to be spring rolls & prawn toast that we got from chinese supermarket and a stirfry using some stray meat in the freezer. Meat looked v ropey so we left the stirfry- the meat is down for the dog. Seeing as we did a major walk yesterday, we could have done with more!

Now we have to work out what I can order to use these stores up. Its the first time Weve ever tried a monthly meal plan. We did OK with the major ocado order, but do feel it was probably quite expensive. Quality was super though. Im not sure about trying sainsurys as IM convinced its from my local megastore where Ive seen the staff lobbing produce into crates

We are going to have to buy something today, we have absolutely no veg in the house. So tonights offering is likely to be Linda Mccartney Pie, mash, peas, carrots and onio gravy. I can sense a rainy day and im "meant" to be going to the gym today
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I've taken some HG tomatoes from the freezer to make tomato and chilli relish tomorrow :T I've taken out Berskshire pork liver and HM sausages to make a casserole for tomorrow's tea.

I can now see space in my freezer :j :D

We have a cupboard full of rarely drunk spirits & liqueurs, either duty free or gifted by relatives. Most of them have been there for years with only small quantities drunk as we're not great liqueur drinkers. Does anybody have any innovative ways of using them up without causing us to become alcoholics in the process?

Hope you feel ok after your swine flu jab. I had mine on Monday - swine flu in one arm and normal flu jab in the other. I was warned i may be 'feeling sorry for myself by thursday' according to my ward sister but i have felt absoloutly fine!

So far so good bex2002, I had same as you, both arms, not feeling great today - nothing to do with flu jabs - more to do with girls night at pals and staying up talking until 5.00am :eek: as a result no batch cooking done today or meal planning in fact nothing done at all :o:o

OH says he will make himself an omelette as I am not really hungry ;)

Done quite well today - used up 2 egg whites out of the freezer and a bag of ground almonds to make macaroons and a container of caster sugar (down to one now!)

Also out of the freezer was a portion of braised red cabbage that I discovered looking for the egg whites and a pack of sausages which I took out instead of a pie. Off now to make a casserole for tea and look what I can make for tea in the week.

ETA: put the frozen peppers in the casserole too and a pepper and chilli from the fridge, alongside a tin of tomatoes (7 left!)

Unfortunately found a jar of olives and sundried tomatoes in the cupboard I didn't know I had! Oh well I've concocted a meal with the frozen salmon fillets and pasta to use some of them up this week

ellemm - hope you feel better soon! Have something carby if it's an alcohol induced roughness!

Am I allowed to play if I confess that I only have one carton of passata and no tinned tomatoes? I do have two tubes of tom puree if this helps? I tend to stockpile teabags and toilet rolls though.

I am a born hoarder and fighting it - having no kitchen cupboards really helps but my freezer is bulging instead. I need to run it down, but have increased the contents two months in a row :o. Well, first I bought a beef pack from the bucthers and then the chickens were half price in the co-op, and well, erm the rest is history. Today we have had bacon and sausages from the freezer, and chicken from the freezer. Everything else was fresh. Tomorrow I will re-audit the contents and see just how big the issue is!

Good to 'see' you Lynzpower! Been a long time since you were manically cleaning your flat and trying to exhange at the same time as me.

Today I have used up a ham joint from the freezer, although it nearly didn't get used as I remembered at 5 o'clock this morning that I'd forgotten to take it out. Luckily it deforsted quite quickly in a large bowl of water, and is now braising in the oven with onions and lentils - I've just dipped a spoon in the stock to test for seasoning and it tastes bloomin' lovely if I do say so myself! :D

I've also taken a pack of ready-made onion soup out of the freezer for lunches for the next few days - normally I make my own but it's one more thing out of the freezer!

ellemm - hope you feel better soon, hun.

Penny - have I ever told you how much I envy you your stock of hm sausages? It's probably a good thing I don't have any, though - I'd never eat anything else! ;)

HOw do you cope with no cupboards . I would be all panicky!

I have a very compact open shelved pantry, a table, and a 1960s sink unit so no worktops either which is just grim. We have no loft space either beciuase the hatch is tiny. I have minor palpatations everytime I get home from shopping at just where I am supposed to put stuff. We bought an old house that had had very little done since the 60's and we ran out of budget some time ago. My kitchen to be currently consists of two cubic metres of rough sawn oak and a double belfast sink (taking up valuable space in the pantry). One day it will be lovely but till then I can only over stock the freezer! If we can live from the store cupboard for a few months then I can afford some worktops and move things on a little. Before we ran out of cash I bought a lovely 900mm Rangemaster Professional Plus so it isn't all bad.

Dinner was the dregs of the fridge - so toasties for all with a variety of fillings.
