I took a pack of mince out of my overflowing freezer over the weekend, intending to use it up in two meals. When I started cooking last night, though, I found I just couldn't bring myself to do it - I couldn't use an entire half pack of mince for just one meal. I ended up bulking it out with lentils and vegetables so I had enough for three portions, two of which are now back in the freezer.

All in all, I'm pretty much back where I started - with a freezer full of food. This just isn't going according to plan! :( :rotfl:

Now that's truly OS! But hey, at least your freezer will be full of new stuff!
Have just eaten the last portion of turkey bol made with last year's left over Christmas Turkey...
Between your turkey and Penny's leftover mince pies I think we could put a Christmas feast together!:D And probably have leftovers.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Nothing as blood thirsty as that! It is a shepherds pie recipe with baked beans that I got out of Runners Magazine and the name seems to have stuck.

Thank you all for your good wishes and finger crossing about my job. I found out this morning that I have kept my job which is a relief.:T
Hurray!:T:T:T I'm so happy to hear about your job - fantastic news! Hope you enjoyed your celebrationj!

Runners pie - phew - glad to know it's nothing barbaric!:D:p

I think I need to join in with this, we have cupboards full of stuff - yet I get there's nothing in all the time.

I think I will do an inventory of store and freezer to get it all down, this will also help my grocery challenge for November.
Good luck! It's great to know what you've got in so at least when you go shopping you know what you really need.

    Out of the freezer...
Today, I will be taking out some soup for 'Ron, at work.
And some fish for tea :D

    Into the freezer
Some baked pumpkin, that I have made into a solid pack type thing, similar to the America canned pumpkin.
Also going in, will be the pumpkin stock, to use in either soup, or risotto
Reminds me fo the decluttering thread!:D I think they have a rule that in order to bring something in, something must be taken out of the house. Maybe we should do it for our freezers!

I used up the rest of my bacon/onion mix, almost all of my mushrooms and half the frozen white rice (which wasn't half bad actually) in a lovely fried rice thing. Glad I got the big bag of frozen peas - they're so handy for this kind of dish. And there's another portion to bung in the microwave for tomorrow's dinner.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I've updated my paper lists :o:eek: I didn't realise I had so much in.

Tonights tea was a turkey burger, peas & instant mash portion each . Delicious ;) Leaving half a pack of instant mash for another day ;)

Not decided on tomorrows yet, but I'm thinking...

Thanks ellemm - that's just reminded me to take some soup out to defrost for lunch!

Maybe have a root around for something for tea or have the half tin of sausage and beans. Challenge is going ok for now! Must remain strong at the weekend as it is my weakest time.

One more item out of my freezer - half a loaf of ciabatta for dinner last night. :)

(OK, I wouldn't have needed to use it if I had remembered to check before I went shopping on Friday if I had any bread flour, but never mind - it's one more thing used up!)
Back after a very long break!
  • I will be using up a ready meal from the freezer for dh's tea tonight (whoopsied to 75p - the ready meal, not my dh ;))
And I will be finishing off the last portion of homemade chicken and tomato bake and some homemade foccacia also from the freezer.

The freezer is looking half empty now and I can start to plan what to buy/make for christmas now, and my cupboards are looking much better too, as I can actually see whats in there now!

  • Well I have not been good at sticking to the plan this last fortnight! I won't have a nice empty freezer to defrost in time for Xmas, so really must use it up. I have had to add something too the freezer as well, I moved the tins of tomatoes etc from the cupboard via the slow cooker into the freezer! Necessary though in order to use up the mince, sausages etc already in the freezer. - Sausage and pasta bake, spag bol, meatballs etc.

The tomato sauce is a really nice batch , I don't know what it is you do exactly the same and sometimes it comes out lovely and others just not as nice!
