Vegetables from the fridge, ham stock from the freezer and lentils from the cupboard for lentil soup for lunch. Mixed soft fruit from the freezer turned into a compot to stir into breakfast porridge for a few days. No matter how regularly we remove stuff from our large garage freezer it still seems to look as stubbornly full as ever.

Real storecup treat for us this evening- its half a box of frozen flat mushrooms, half a lurking onion, large handful of dried onions ( bought a long time ago for a breadmaker that bit the dust- I find these remarkably good now im using them- might buy more LOL) the ends of a bag of risotto, one chicken/ one veg stock cube, a smidge of garlic paste. I do have 2 pieces of chicken to go with this and a reduced finest italian loaf thing as well.

Ive realised the weak point is when we have no "treats" in, cake/ biscuits/ pudding of some sort. I have loads of baking stuff in, loads, I jsut dont feel that confident. the last time I made the banana cheesecake but I dont have the ingredients for that. Im trying to resist doing another order. I wanted to buy some approved food stuff but as its not really food, then I guess ill have to buy other stuff as well. I cant be trusted!

Does anyone know that website that you put your ingredients in and it gives you options of what you can make.

Hope everyones surprises end up happy ones ;):D

  • I havn't been shopping for 2 weeks now. I'm living out of my stores for a while.

However, sometimes I find that this fills up my freezer further. I defrosted a chicken night before last, roasted it and made up about 6 one sized portions of complete dinners together with spuds, carrots, cabbage and swede. I then used the carcass to make chicken and veg soup in my slow cooker and had several portions to freeze. The result was that I needed more space using food I had created than the original chicken used in the first place.

I've had a good giggle thinking of the "ropey salmon", "stray sausages" and "lurking half onion"!:rotfl:
I will be using up a ready meal from the freezer for dh's tea tonight (whoopsied to 75p - the ready meal, not my dh ;))
    :D
Well done on making room in the freezer - bet it won't be long till it fills up!
I moved the tins of tomatoes etc from the cupboard via the slow cooker into the freezer!
Lol! I think I'm in the same boat! I used up a a jar, some tinned toms, some lentils, quinoa, soya mince, kidney beans, veg and rice, but now I have a huge vat of veggie chilli most of which will end up in the freezer.:D It was yummy, just the thing on a cold day. And because of the cold and my greed I wanted pudding! :o I used up some tapioca, some of the squeezy condensed milk, some of my whoopsied milk, a squirt of honey and the juice and rind of withered looking lemon that had been hiding under the celery! Yum. Now I'm full and warm. Now all I need is a cuppa and I'm sorted. :coffee:

I have been partly successful partly not

I did have to buy some food, so my kids didnt starve, cos we had no potatoes or anything to have as a carb:rolleyes:
And for the first time ever ( I think) I also didnt have any tinned tomataoes:eek::eek:
Crikey! I was half expecting a "dum dum dum" and the Eastenders theme to start following that confession! Well and good that your kids didn't starve but no tinned toms?! Well I'll be tuned in to see how jinky survives this no-tomatoes crisis!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

WOW! Ok, pavalova with berries, cranberry and chocolate muffins, fairy cakes, everyday biscuits , carrot cake without the topping (if you have carrots?), leamingtons, um heaps of stuff! The carrot cake is easy peasy as are basic fairy cakes (which can be adapted once you have them down!) Then you can make coffee/choc sponge etc. Banana muffins or caranberry muffins - I have a lovely recipe of Thriftladys I can post. Foolproof! Is there anything you want to make? Honestly, i know how scary it is to start baking but once you start there will be no stopping you!
