If you are sick of potatoes you can always use them mashed ( store this in the freezer) as an easy pie filling thickener.

Does anyone know if you can make muesli bars out of packet museli? You muist be able to! Ive got honey, eggs, cream cheese, dessicated coconut, some weird nutmeg syrup that i brought back from greneda its like a spicy honey- and a few other bits & pieces

Also I have a small jar ( about the same size as a mustard jar) of posh looking "cherries in syrup" what EASY thing can i make with these ( not pancakes, im so sick of them)
Any clues I fancy something sweet. :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Chicken seems to be my main meat too - not averse to a nice sausie too. This thread is giving me cravings for the contents of other people's freezers and store cupboards!:D

I ate the hash browns and croquettes as a side to the pie and it was yummy.
The way I make mine is to line a dish with pastry(I use small individual ones and freeze them as I dont eat meat so they are just for me) and bake them for a few mins then I fry onions and mushrooms add to the pastry case and top it with cheesy mash and the slice a tomato on the top and a bit of grated cheese and bake in the oven for about 30 mins.
    Yummy!:D

Thanks a mill for the recipe taplady, that sounds scrumptious. It's been years since I made pastry but I might just give it a go. I love the sound of cute little pies just for one. But I'm greedy so will probably make a big one!:rotfl:

  • I still haven't listed my freezer stuff yet and I know I have some bags of meat surprise in there .

However, tomorrow I will be making a big batch of chilli, using some of my (many) tins of tomatoes, red kidney beans and some beef mince from the freezer. I have some tortillas in the freezer too, so might cobble together some burrito style thingies with the rest of the chilli.

Scrummy, I love Mexican food. Am planning to a chilli con veggies soon and will do a meat one at some stage. Don't have tortillas though so will just have rice.

I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but you can make flapjacks with muesli, rather than using plain oats - melt some butter and sugar/syrup together (sorry, can't tell you how much, I'm useless on quantities!:o), mix in the muesli, pour into a lined baking tray and bake in the oven until cooked (err.. I'm not good on times either, I'm afraid!:o:o). The only thing you need to be wary of is if the muesli has sultanas in it, as you may need to put a bit of foil over the top to stop them getting too 'caramelised' (my sister's phrase - i.e. burnt!).

Nuala - I hope you feel better soon. I always think soup's the best thing when you're feeling ill, isn't it? Strangely enough I'm making carrot soup this weekend as I've got tons of the things (alright, a slight exaggeration, but lots, anyway), so I might try your spicy version.

taplady - thanks for your cheese and potato pie recipe - that's gone straight on to my list of recipes 'borrowed' from forumites. :)

She must have picked it up from one of her chef friends, then - my sister's idea of haute cuisine is tinned tomatoes on toast! :D
