Is there anything I can do with a jar of roasted red peppers?
I just found them hiding behind some jars of olives, I honestly do not remember getting these or why!
A NON BEAN meal would be good!
Hate to be fussy but, it HAS to be vegan. We are all severly allergic to anything meat or there by- products... (How I dream of a bacon sarny, its OK for the boys they have been like this since they were born, I became allergic when I was pregnant with them0
But if anyone is thinking of losing a few pounds vegan meals just once or twice a week will help you, so long as you do not load your plate with chips you will see a difference
in a very short time even if you do nothing else.
In saying that both my boys (15 year old twins) are well built and heavty, they both do weights and wrestle for fun, they both also have a passion for peanut butter/jam sandwiches,
Sorry I am rambeling best go and see to the laundry.

could you use them to make pasta sauce or top pizzas with? Found you a thread about using up peppers

    Red pepper pesto?

or in a minestrone type soup?

  • OOOW pesto wins the day

Pizza was a close second but I have no flour, or cheese substitute, as a matter of interest that is the ONLY way it is edible in my opion, cooked and melted with other tastes.:rotfl:

But for the pesto I do not need to buy anything I have all the ingredients.:A

Peppers, olives, pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes in oil, the oil from the toms.
whizz it up, and bobs my auntie.;)

Morally superior,,,,,,mmmm much rather have a doner now and then to be honest:mad:
some times I would just like some fast greasy KFC or a lovely milkshake from Md
I know this is not very MSE but hey ho now and then would be good:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Hello All:hello:

Mind if I join in? I have just read back to August when I should have been working:o and you guys are an inspiration. I fell off the OS/grocery challenge/batch cooking wagon in August due to morning sickness and the threat of redundancy but am feeling newly motivated and ready to go for it again!:j

I have been using my freezer stocks up this week as we are skint coming up to pay day but there is still a lot of frozen veg and cupboard stuff I could be using instead of buying new stuff. I am missing my home cooked food as well as we have been having a lot of ready prepared stuff as I have been off cooking with the sickness.

I have rejoined the GC and was looking to spend £250 in Nov and £300 in Dec (including Xmas dinner for 4 possibly 5) but if I could halve this I would be ecstatic as there would be more money to go in the baby savings pot. When I write it down it looks like a HUGE amount of money but includes all cleaning stuff, toiletries and dog food for 2 dogs but I know with a bit of inspiration it could be a lot lower.

I will have a think and see what food only budget I can stick to. We eat so much fruit it costs a fortune. I am veggie and my DH is not (but is good and will eat most things). He seems to be happier eating veggie food if I make it myself than if it is a meat substitute like quorn escallopes or sausages with pots and veg.

I have done a freezer list and have used this during the week to meal plan. I will complete the store cupboard list tonight and post them both either tonight or tomorrow.

Any ideas very much appreciated as I am sick of eating the same things.

    Apologies for the long post

Using up some frozen tomatoes, 1 tin tomatoes, garlic, onions, olive oil and herbs I made more than enough pizza sauce to cover 2 large pizzas. Have some left over but can't fit it in the freezers yet as I now have 1 large pizza to freeze (only 2 of us). I will have to make a bolognaise with it at the weekend.

Also made some houmous and some potato and leek soup.

Some of that will have to be frozen and that takes me on to the problem I have, to use something up - I cook something - only 2 of us so surplus has to go into freezer! :D It's beginning to feel like the magic porridge pot story! :rotfl:

    used up so far:-

    1 tin tomatoes
    1 bag frozen tomatoes
last of the fresh garlic cloves (almost)have some frozen ones and garlic paste
    1 tin chick peas
1 bag of white bread flour (2 large loaves and 2 large pizzas)
    1 tin tuna
    1 Jar cheese sauce
    1 tin mushy peas
    various vegetables
last of the bag of spuds - using the peel today (scrubbed and cooked in oven with olive oil)with houmous
Last of the apples from tree
    tin evap milk
    1 tin pineapple cubes
I know, I know, I have to do a list of what I have in store.:o

taplady - thanks for your cheese and potato pie recipe - that's gone straight on to my list of recipes 'borrowed' from forumites. :)

    you're welcome!:)

todays tea was all from the freezer - leftover stew(not meat in mine so I have a dumpling instead - veggie one) with frozen leftover mash. All done in the microwave in minutes:T for pud I've had 2 twinks which had also been frozen.
Tomorrow I get my tea at work for free:money: so just the chaps here to cater for and they are having frozen pizza I think.

My smallest freezer is looking much better now and hopefully I can defrost it on Saturday by putting all the stuff in the other freezer(it should fir - just)

Compared to some of you I havent got tons of stuff hoarded but its great using up the oddments.

Nuala - I'm deffinitely doing your mushroom risotto again as I still have some arborio rice left, it was so delicious that I'll invest in some value mushrooms I think!
    Do what you love :happyhear
