  • OW candygirl I wish I had all this stuff to add to my mountain of beans!!
But I have to be honest I just had a daydream of a crisp and salad cream sarny.
I know that doesn't help you much.
Just a day dream as I cannot eat salad cream and have no extra money for crisps that is the way it will have to stay

    I've been Money Tipped!
The leftover veg and country soup mix soup worked out really well with enough left for tomorrow. Tonight we have the rest of the fishfingers with tin of approved foods mushy peas and left over potatoes, sliced and fried in olive oil. Pud will be some of the apple crumble with tin evap milk. Starting to see some gaps on the shelves already.

Thinking about making a pizza (use up some more bread flour - over stocked) and tomato sauce using the frozen toms from the greenhouse. No cheese left so need to buy some but plenty of tuna and olives to go on top. Not sure what veg to have though! Have to go rummage again and make a list.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Just lost a long post!:o:mad: but basically please can I join in? This is such a great idea to get ready for Christmas! I would need to spend about £15 a week (organic box deliveries fortnightly and eggs/organic milk/cheese to buy) Just need to clear the freezers and larder before I spend too much more!

I have slow cooker going with leftover veg soup for tomorrow and I'm going to add some country soup mix to thicken it up. Tonight we will be eating burgers (left over from summer barbecue) cauliflower cheese (using up jar of cheese sauce from approved foods) and potatoes followed by apple crumble (using up last of the home grown apples)

Had enough crumble mixture left over so made another smaller crumble, for tonight, using some tinned pineapple that needed using - surprisingly good, so have the apple crumble for another two meals. Have a white loaf in the bread maker for tomorrows toast and butties. Just need to plan tomorrows meals now!

Hi catzine, and good luck with your challenge. Mmm, crumble - one of my favourites. I picked the last 3 pears from the tree in the garden. They're not looking the best but I think they'll be fine in a crumble - thanks for the inspiration!:T

I also have a huge pot of lovely spicy carrot soup that I made last night. I used up my old limp carrots and put some of the fresh ones in, a bit of celery, onion, garlic, a tin of tomatoes and all my Indian-type spices. I've never added that kind of spice before but I think it'll be nice and warming and there's lots of it so I think it'll keep me going for a while.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I finished the lovely mushroom risotto for lunch with some leftover soup. For tea I'm having a cheese and potato pie from the freezer with some odds and ends - 2 hash browns and 2 croquettes that have been lurking in there for ages plus some baked beans.
I've made a list of the contents and have decided I will have to do some shopping but will continue to eat all the oddments myself.
It will be fun having ususual concoctions:D

I think I overspent before you did so it would be like the pot calling the kettle black! :D Anyway, glad you had cause for celebration!

I really like the sound of your veg chilli - I'm not a vegetarian but I'm trying to eat more veggie and vegan meals. I think Worcester sauce would be one thing I'd find hard to do without but no doubt there are substitutes for it's lovely flavour.

Your food list is making me hungry - plenty to keep you going there.

    Hi all,

SanFran , Felafel (or felafal or falafel) is a Middle Eastern dish of chickpea balls/patties flavoured with onion, garlic, herbs and spices. I also make mine with beans (lentils don't work so well). I serve them with flatbread, salad, salsa etc but they are also good with couscous. OH the caveman likes these as they fill him up and apparently aren't 'girly' food! Do you make bean burgers ever?

CCP and Shazzle - i'm glad you both agree with the economies of 'home entertaining' however, it's the resulting munchies that always get me!

Candygirl - brilliant list, though when I was reading I thought it said '12 baby eels' not baby bels!!! Duh!!!

Nuala - I think i'm going to use my 'wood for the trees' as my signature - all credit to you for it though!. I'm planning to post my store cupboard lists these weekend. That should be good for a few laughs....

    Cheers
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!
