Hey CCP, I'm in the West Mids and warming myself up with a not so MSE vodka and fanta lemon:o . I could live on soup (not with the fanta lemon though!). When I think of Portsmouth I have really good food memories - as kids we would catch the passenger ferry to Ryde for our annual IOW holiday, and chips and cheese and onion cobs would always be a treat.
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!

Hi Lynz... All of the above ingredients will do well in a Morrocan Tagine. The spices I would use would be cumin, cardomon, cinnamon, carraway and cayenne. Olives are a good addition too. And if you like that sort of thing there is usually raisins or apricots.
If it was me I would make it up as I go along using the above but you could try THIS recipe for the tagine and THIS ONE for the flatbreads.

Well.. a small success tonight :D But thats what its all about eh ? ;)

Used up some frozen mash, and a pack frozen whoopsied veggie sausages.
I had bought some brussels and parsnips on Sunday, before I joined this thread ;)... so half of these were also used up. :D

I did spend £1.20 today, on some oranges. I bought these, to use up some vacum packed beetroot, thats been lurking in my fridge, so that I finally make beetroot and orange relish, that I keep threatening to do :o
And will be making this tomorrow :D

HI Molly - is that your little one in the pic? - what a cutie! That's great to have your OH on board - it will make it easier for you. I like your idea of shopping locally - that's what I'd like to do ideally.

Good luck with your inventory - sounds like a bit like mine.:D All my jars of pasta sauce were BOGOFs! £10 a week sounds terrific, let us know how you get on!

Yep thats my daughter in the picture, She is 15 weeks old and I agree that she is a cutie :D (Although not at the moment as she is wailing like a banshee!)

My cupboard inventory is 3 A4 pages long I am ashamed to say, so I think this challenge is well overdue in this household.

This evening I have used some chicken fillets from the freezer to make Balsamic glazed chicken with champ mash and peas. I made extra mash to fry-up to go with tomorrows tea, which will be a steamed beef suet pud made with left over stew from yesterday.

My tasks tomorrow will be to attempt to make meringues from the egg whites I have left over from making lemon tart. And also to do my freezer inventory.

    Hi everyone :hello:

For some reason I've never actually joined this thread . DH and I are moving soon, so we're trying to whittle down the contents in the cupboard. Tonight I had to do the weekly shop, but because we've got so much in the cupboards, I had to buy the essentials. Ok, so £18 is a little over the top on essentials but there were toiletries (much needed), branflakes (Mr T's value), weetabix (Mr T's own brand), fruit and some veg.

Tonight we had burgers (from the freezer, left over from my mum's 60th bday!), potatoes and salad (yellow sticker stuff). Got loads to go at. That's before I look at the tins.....

Anyone any ideas of what I can do with the tofu?

Still reading through the thread so sorry if someone already suggested this. Blend it with fruit and a little yoghurt/milk to make a creamy, high protein smoothie. I find these very yum, especially sweetened with a little honey.

Or I suppose you could add it to any soup you're blending smooth that you want to add a little creaminess to, but I've never tried that. Might have a go if I do potato and leek soup next week and report back with findings.

"SanFran, do you make pates/dips with your pulses? They are lovely on a multitude of things (including jacket spuds). "
What is falafal Lizzie? Yes please any and all suggestions are welcome!
The boys have a main meal but then spend the rest of the time snacking, so dips with Tortilla chips or veg slices are normally always around

Hey! there would be a riot in this house if the boys did not get their HM refried beans, hummus, and have to admit to finding the red lentil one of weezles that they like as well.

    On the menu tomorrow is
a sort of lasagna potato thing.
thinly slice potato and par boil,
    thinly slice onion,
    a tin of baked beans,
lasagna it all and then pop it in the oven till it looks cooked. Start and finish with potato.
My daughter puts cheese on the top as well, and her children like that.
But we do not eat any dairy.

I noticed that a lot of people seem to have a truckload of beans this is a good way to use a few cans, I make HM beans and have about 20 portions in jars since about March time as we find the shop bought ones are too sweet for us, the whole batch cost about 1 pound to make in the trusty slow cooker of course.
