Family tree : I dont think so, last time I looked I was a girl :-).
the_cat, I am only avoiding this by not going at all to the supermarket. I really struggle to walk past a yellow sticker if it's something we will eat. I have a new rule of not buying anything with a sticker unless its reduced by 50% or more ( preferably 75%) and that seems to be helping ( a little bit :-$)
Made Mrs M's soft tortillas ( from the grocery challenge recipe list (post 4 on that thread)) last night and used up some chicken and frozen peppers with some fridge stuff. DS has HM wraps for lunch too :-).Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
the_cat your not alone.....:embarasse after posting yesterday about using fish and sauces for dinner last night we had a bag of chips
, I had left out fish but DH decided to play golf staright after work and I ended up snacking ( bad move) till he came home by which tme he was starving and couldn't wait so we gave in and went to the chip shop......that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it:rolleyes:.
Today is a new day and we are having the fish tonight, here goes with the contents of my freezer
3 tubs of ice cream, vanilla, strawberry and fish food
2 cinamon swirl rolls
4 M&S spong puddings - 2 chocolate, 2 apple sponge ( yummy)
2 Pkt fish finger
2 duck breasts
2 x500g Lamb mince
2 breaded cod fillets
2 pork loins steaks
2 tuna steaks
6 chicken thighs
1pkt lasagne sheets
½ tub fresh custard
ham and spinach ravioli
suarkraut dumplings ( don't know how to spell it lol)
Some chicken breasts
12 mini spring rolls
12 sausage rolls ( both bought for a buffet and not used)
12 pork chipolatas
1 pkt ready roll puff pastry
1 packet of pizza mini slices
1 cheese and tomato pizza
1kg home style chips
½ bag frozen peas
1 bag frozen mushrooms
frozen parsnip and carrot mash
Plus the cupboards are bulging so I reckon with some careful planning and some intersting combinations we should manage to feed me, DH and soon to be 5yrs old daughter no probs for the next three weeks.0 -

I am looking for some ideas to use up salmon (two fillets which are not big enough to make a salmon fillet dish with iyswim), and also some smoked haddock, although preferably not together!
OrkneyStar - what about making kedgeree? This works with salmon, with smoked haddock, and in fact also with both!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Hi All
New to MSE - This is my first challenge - have inventoried inside and outside fridge freezer - freezer contents.
Old habit - OH is tired and at these times usually suggests a take away curry - which i usually go along with.
However - as i defrosted two chicken pieces last night - when he suggested a curry as he was too tired to cook - i suggested a HM one - which i am going to have a bash at making - even though i am not as good a cook as him.
OH looks surprised but has agreed - yaaay thats saved us £15 plus petrol to collect it - and all the ingredients are in the house.
I know its baby steps - and not much to sing about compared to the achievements of the experienced OS members - but i feel pretty chuffed:D
Thanks for helping our family get their finances under control
You are much appreciated all

Hi All
curry
Trin
Trin, here is Curry queens curry.
I made it a few weeks ago and froze 4 portions. It is a slight faff but you get heaps of servings out of this quantity. It is adaptable as you can change the basic curry sauce into Korma, normal curry, etc. It is gorg - if hubby likes curry surely give it a look anyway.
I have my freezer organised. Top drawer is frozen veg , next biggest one is meals, and bottom is packed up meat. I just rid 5 boxes by putting the stuff in freezer bag with the label cut out facing out wards and cooking instructions behind it. WOO HOO! FREEZER ROOM!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Orkney star, could you use your salmon fillets individually in quiche, would one be enough for a quiche? Could make a very stretchy meal that wayEat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

I think I will join the challenge please.
I spent £90 at Asda on Tuesday (a fair bit on toiletries, laundry & cleaning products and big things like coffee etc) but this is 2/5 of my current monthly shopping budget so it is seriously dented and the month hasnt even started yet (it starts on the 24th as thats when DH gets paid but I got my dates wrong this month and shopped too early )
My freezer list from mempry is:
11 sausages
about 15 fish fingers
6 quorn fillets
3 bags quorn pieces
1 bag quorn mince
2 HM shepherds pies (each feeds whole fammily)
couple portions HM veg curry
4 pieces fish in breadcrumbs
1 pack marinated tofu
1 pack falafels
2 packs prawns
2 packs quorn bacon
1 portion tortilla dough
burgers ?
1 WW veg curry ready meal
spinach
green beans
2 small packs stir fry mix
1 pack rhubarb
2 WW frozen deserts
10 potato waffles
Various garlic breads, pancakes, bread, crumpets
I'll update it tomorrow if I have time to do a proper inventory
With storecupboard bits I make that 16 meals and I haven't even done a proper list yet! Cool!
We also have 2 tins tuna, 2 tins sausage and beans, eggs, stuff for 2xpizza. Another 7 meals.
Total 23 meals.
Have decided to splash out and do tea out on Friday's between school and swimming (they dont eat much so not swimming on a full tummy or anything), prob just Asda cafe or McDonalds. That means in 4 weeks I only need 24 meals so I am almost there! How exciting!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

Oh my gosh, I am so busy doing this at the moment, have managed to make my blackberries (from over a year ago,
) to make blackberry and apply jam (least it now only takes cupboard space lol), and have eaten through two frozen loaves I had in there recently. Trying not to buy meat at the moment just eat what I have.
Will not post a list of what is in there, I have one of those non-auto defrost freezers and the ice build up (urg) puts me off...:rotfl:
Having cornbeef for dinner that I found in there this morn, which reminds me, it should have been on ages ago, opps...
I do know that in the recesses of the freezer I have a broiling fowl :eek::eek: not sure what posessed me except that it was V V V cheap. Any ideas? Think it has to be boiled..."Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -

Just an update from me......we did have the fish from two nights ago and it was lovely :T. Last night I we helped my FIL get his new computer all set up and he treated us to an Indian Takeaway, very nice but didn't help my freezer crusade but it was free
.
Tonight I think we will have a snacky dinner so pizza and breaded mushrooms off the list and we have managed to eat half a tub of fish food so far and I suspect that it may be finished before bed tonight
My plan is to make the duck breasts for dinner on Saturday night and use one of the lamb mince ofr Sunday....we shall see.
I will post my updated freezer list on Monday, have a great weekend all and happy freezer shopping.:rotfl:
