  • Going really well so far. Couple of NSDs , so no new additions and we used the ancient packet of Lidl fruit de la mer in seafood risotto last night, would probably have been enough for 2 meals but I was desparate to see it gone!! (not very MS I know).

Tonight is mince and veg with cobbler topping, will do extra mince for oriental steamed buns tomorrow (recipe in post 4ish of grocery challenge).

Danger point is sunday, when we will need milk, and there's bound to be some yellow labels trying to jump in my basket :o.

    OOh thanks for the link

I ended up making a curry out of a jar from MrT - it wasnt the worst but it could do with some improvement. Will be trying these out next time OH wants to get a take away. I am determined to see the bottom of my freezers for the first time in years.

  • My freezers are so stuffed at the mo I can't face listing all of the stuff I have, but I am gradually running them down because they need a good defrost and I want to fill them with summery stuff like Gammon, chicken, kebabs, lollies and icecream etc.
I am currently using all my stock up so I can get fresh and as a result I only spent £24.65 this week on fresh stuff for the week and that includes lunch box stuff and drinks
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I am in for this, I will do an inventory later. I only have a freezer attached to my fridge so it's not the biggest. Things are quite tight at the momebt so I am using my freezer , pantry etc as my shop. Luckily I am a bit of a stockpiler so we should be ok. I think it comes from living with my nan when I was growing up, she said you should always have extras in your pantry and freezer in case of hard times. Thank you nan for this pearl of wisdom as it has been a lifesaver recently.

I'm not doing too well I'm afraid. Got a pack of lamb mince out of the freezer and while it was defrosting went shopping for milk/bread and bought more lamb mince cos it was reduced! So the new stuff has simply replaced the old stuff in the freezer.
Really goin to to make a start now and have decided on meals this week in an effort to use things up:

    *Beef+mushroom curry, bhajis, nan+rice
    *Roast chicken, cauliflower, parsnips, spuds
*Chicken+mushroom pie with leftover chicken, veg
*Salmon fillets, mushy peas, HM wedges
*HM meatballs, tomato+roast pepper sauce, pasta

    8 turkey sausages

    Small freezer

    Two large bags blueberries
    1 pkt raspberries
    1 brown bread
    1 pot gravy
    1 courgette curry portion
    1 bag mixed pepper slices
    1 bag garlic mushrooms
    1 bag frozen chips
    1 bag mixed summer fruit
1 pkt boil in bag kippers

Well i was doing realy well then i had to go into town, Iceland frozen food is on the way home, so i had to nip in! save on petrol u know.

I love Iceland it`s so cheap, so have filled it up a bit, but I did seem to have alot of veg and stuff in.

Anyway we had the chicken last night, but there was 1 less for tea and I now have 2 boxes of cooked chicken in freezer instead of a whole 1!

Going to do a sweet and sour chicken with the stir fry veg-already in freezer and a chicken encilladas-jar in cupboard for ages.

    OK I officially need help!!

Despite posting here yesterday I popped into supermarket last night for milk. Saw whoopsies and came away with fish fillets(15p) sausagemeat (20p) and 6 blocks of cheese(29p each)......................... then spent 20 minutes trying to cram it all in the freezer!!

Should I walk past these sort of bargains? Anyone actually managed to do it? Any tips?:rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi Cat

    I feel your pain:o

I went to the supermarket to get beer and pudding to take to a friends house as we were having a potluck supper - pretty legitamate reasons. However by taking the OH - who managed to spend over a fiver on a sandwich, drink and apple turnover:eek:. Meant that i spent much more than i wanted. he also couldnt resist whoops bag of spinach and two avocados for 10p each.

My big tip is to keep OH out of the supermarket. Although he supports my OS efforts - temptation is too much once he gets into the shop.

Whoops are hard to resist - especially if you know its a bargain.

On a cheery note - pleased to report - have not bought storecupboard or freezer items for a whole week - somewhat unheard of.

    Good luck Cat

I've made big inroads into my freezer in the last couple of weeks :j Going to defrost it next ;)

As this has fallen from the front page of Old Style, I'll add it to the existign Storecupboard Challenge thread.
