I'm hopeless...was in spar last night and spotted two packs of whoopsied minced beef each pack was £1.50 for 700g...couldn't resist. otherwise i am making slow progress at reducing the upright freezer at least.

I have avoided all shops for two days hence my freezers ae all looking much emptier. My chest freezer is left with less than half full now, and my upright has a few gaps, the small freezer has a small space. However the bolognese sauce I cooked from a 1kg packet of mince, has led to a huge tub of bolognese in its place and a full lasagne and two individual lasagnes too?

I'm getting there now. I've used up 3 fish fillets, 2 packs of 6 sausages and 2 packs of casserole beef. Have also been using up my frozen veg so haven't needed to buy any fresh. Going to get either a chicken or mince out for tomorrow night's tea.

Still don't know what I'm going to do with the frozen lobster. Any ideas?
  • For the lobster, google lobster pasta recipes and you will find something or maybe just serve it with salad?

just put 5 yam soups into the upright freezer cos i had some whoopsied yams to use up and a few odd potatoes. because this challenge has now been merged with the store cupboard challenge i've added my stash of tinned food to the list...its not quite as bad but need using up too.

  • Well just a quick note to say that since I started the freezer challenge, I have used up 8 items from my freezer & now have room for more stuff! Yeahh! :j No more getting freezer burn on my fingers trying to shuffle things around.
Not quite feeling energetic enough to start a complete storecupboard challenge yet though. Maybe in a few months!!!

Hehe I can relate, there seems to be sooo many more good specials when I am doing a challenge than when I am not, gave in to two very cheap chickens and a tub of ice cream the other day. :o

But have been making banana bread to work through my 15 bananas that had snuck in there :rotfl:

Ohh, and just bulk cooked and shoved another 6 meals in there. Yip, useless

We recently treated ourselves to some fresh English asparagus and rather than throwing the thick tough ends which you normally chop off & consign to the compost heap, made a delicious soup with them. Just chop up the ends and simmer them for about 25 minutes in a pint or more of chicken stock (depending on the number of chopped stalks you have). Then whizz with a stick blender to break everything up into a purree.

Can i join in with freezer challenge? If that's okay with everyone?

Decided to look in the freezer as i thought can't put anything in so going to have to do something. Also got sick of OH complaining he couldn't find anything
All i seem to do is buy reduced veg, fruit etc chop up and shot in freezer, then just grab whatever when i need it. Till i realised i seriously need help, i can't stop freezing stuff!!! Already taken out some stuff out for todays and tomorrows tea.

So here's what's in my freezer so far:-

    Meat,fish and poultry
    Whole chicken x 1
    Lambs Liver x 1
    Chicken Liver x1
    550g white fish
Fish in sauce portion x 1
    Mince (500g) x 4
    Sausages (8pack) x 1
    Cooked chicken x 2
    Chicken drumsticks x 1
Mini sausage party rolls full 60 pack
HM cheese +bacon rolls 2 packs
    Sausage meat

    Meals + extras
Mince mix x 1 (use for chilli, spag bol etc
    Stew x3
    Risotto x 1

    HM Roast potatoes x 2
    Boiled Rice x2
HM Onion bhajis x 1 bag

    Fruit / veg
    Rhubarb x 6 bags
Mixed peppers x 18 bags

    Carrots x 2 bags
    Swede x 2 bags
    Mushrooms x 2 bags
    Green beans x 6 bags
    Chillies x 1 bag
    Sweetcorn x 1 bag
    Onion x 2 bags
    Celery x 3 bags
    Green cabbage x 2 bags
    White cabbage x 3 bags
    Grated carrot x 1 ag
    Bean sprouts x 1 bag
    Blueberries / grapes x 4 bags

    Bread, dairy + treats
    HM muffins x 4 packs
    Scones x 4
Teacakes x 14 :confused: how i mean does one person get this many teacakes!

    Finger rolls x 4
    Nanns x 3
    Yoghurts x 4
    Breadcrumbs x 2
    Ice lollies x 8

To be fair all the veg, bread etc are in small freezer bags and old margarine tubs are filled with stew. Yes what a rubbish excuse i know.

don't even want to look in the cupboards.

Well, I made spicy lamb burgers so that has used up my mince. Making some veggie soup with fresh and frozen veggies for lunches. Tomorrow night will be eating up leftovers of 2 previous meals, then over weekend I plan to defrost and cook chicken thighs in thai marinade (that were reduced) to have with salad. Quite looking forward to them!
