Hey, I'm moving back home at the end of may (graduating, hopefully!) and I need to finish off all my food!

But i've got some frozen fruit thats been in there up to a year, do we think this is safe?

Also some fish and a pack of mince which has been there since last summer?
I know the official word is normally to eat things within a couple of months but I can't bear to throw food away. What do you all think?
  • Queen of String are you my brother by any chance he says mahoosive all the time and I've never heard anyone else say it:rotfl:

I'd love to join in too, though I'm aiming to empty the freezer, fridge and cupboards by the 15th of May as we are going on holiday that day and I'd like it all used up before we go ready to start fresh when we come back.
I would also like to save some pennies before we go;)

I'll check the freezer tonight and make a list. My list will probably fluctuate a wee bit as I may need to add things in for a few days before they get fully used like extra portions etc.

Tonight we're havng, cod loin from the freezer with spicy tomato sauce ( cupboard), fresh peppers & tomato (fridge) and spaghetti ( cupboard), followed by a sponge pudding ( freezer) :Tso that I can use up a huge tub of cream I have in the fridge before it goes off.
  • ecangel.........I personally have used meat and many other things that have been in my freezer for over a year and they have been fine, but if you feel unsure then don't eat it, it's better to be safe than sorry. I would say fruit would be fine.:p
  • That's a good idea about putting a list on the freezer door. Will do that when I get in from w*rk tonight.

Question - a few people have frozen banannas in their freezers - how do you freeze & use them?

I feel healthier the longer I eat 'out of the freezer'. The more often I go shopping, the more foods I buy to which I know perfectly well I'm intolerant e.g. bread and dairy. Yes, I know that's my own fault!

I use frozen bananas in smoothies, v. nice.

But don't leave the skin on when you freeze them! (This may seem obvious: it wasn't to me the first time I tried it!)

    I will join in too.
My aim is to use what we have before adding anything else. I am happy to replace 'like for like' as I use though.
My list used to be on excel but now use wee blackboards (as comp was playing up), which are stuck on wall beside freezer.
It is only a small/med 4 drawer freezer (the kind that is half fridge/half freezer).....we don't have a lot compared to some of the lists I see!
Today I used some pork chops and made devilled pork, also had some wedges from freezer (along with sweetcorn and carrots).
Tomorrow is non-freezer but Thur is haddock.
I am looking for some ideas to use up salmon (two fillets which are not big enough to make a salmon fillet dish with iyswim), and also some smoked haddock, although preferably not together!

    OK I officially need help!!

Despite posting here yesterday I popped into supermarket last night for milk. Saw whoopsies and came away with fish fillets(15p) sausagemeat (20p) and 6 blocks of cheese(29p each)......................... then spent 20 minutes trying to cram it all in the freezer!!

Should I walk past these sort of bargains? Anyone actually managed to do it? Any tips?:rotfl::rotfl:
  • I challenge anyone to use my beloved fridge freezer bought from iceland last year. Never worked right since i got it still arguing the toss with them 11 months later. Luckily for everyone coolzone gone into admin.
