It has been merged with the store cupboard challenge thread .

Yes :(, it was a festive food challenge as you put it:T which I thought was lovely. Shame it is now a storecupboard challenge
  • Well the sentiment is a great one - so we shall just have to take stock of what we currently have (which is our December/Festive food) and manage on it for as long as we can (which is a Storecupboard Challenge).

I've done a Mummy's Speech to the kids about using what we have and making tea from what is there rather than continually buying from the supermarket and they're with me on that - so I'm excited for the New Year!

Can you honestly imagine what the board would look like if there was a new thread started for every single little thing? What if I want to run a challenge about using my food up from the third week in January to the 4th week in March? This is one of the busiest boards on MSE and it's supposed to be a useful resource where people can find hints and tips EASILY. Not having to plough through hundreds of new threads every day.
There should be no problem where the thread is merged as long as it is relevant to the original post, which this definitely is. It's the contributors who make a thread a success, not the original poster and/or the thread title IMHO. ;)

As for the challenge I shall probably be eating beef and sprouts until Easter but I have gone easy on most other things and I find that leftover chocolate and Bailey's is rarely a problem. icon7.gif

    Merry Christmas everyone.
  • So how come there can't be a MONTHLY storecupboard challenge thread?
I think sometimes they get too long, as this one has, so it will confuse me too much to find out where I read up to each time...
  • I think I might join in with this if that's OK - I need inspiration to get through my freezer, larder and storecupboard, and also to try to reduce the shopping bill even further than I already have - Tesco already get only about £20 a week from me but I have ambitions to reduce their profit margins still further! :rotfl: I'll get stuck in in the new year.

  • I'm going to make a conscious effort to use up what I've got in my cupboards too, so I think I'll join in with this challenge. With everything I've got in for Christmas I don't think we'll need chocolate until July! Not to mention all the other lovely stuff we got in. Ok, so I'll have to top up with the occasional fresh items, but for base ingredients we're set for a loooong time. My OH and I were given a food hamper from my parents for Christmas, and it contained a mixture of treats and storecupboard staples - pasta, prosciutto, spices, sweeties - too much to list, really. Although, that said, I think I'll have to do a full inventory of my cupboards and freezer to show me what I've got left so I know what to use up ;)
Continually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!
  • :j I'm definately in... can't wait to clear the cupboards of the suspicious tins and packets which were so cheap we just couldn't live without :rotfl: And I've been promising to clear my freezer for longer than I can remember, so thats it you've inspired me I'm off shortly to make a list of all the crap in the freezer which needs to be eaten :j :j And if I make my own bread/ pasta and actually dig the jerusalem artichokes out of the garden I may only need to buy fruit and milk.....

This morning I trawled through store cupboard and freezers, and because I'm generally brain dead in January, I've typed out a list of suggested menus usingt their contents. It's now stuck up up on the kitchen pinboard where I can check out every morning so I can select something from the list. (There may be some resistance in our house. OH saw the item marked "Pilchard Fish Cakes" and made a sound which sounded like a cat puking!).

You need a secret code for writing stuff down.... Pilchard fishcakes could be 'Cornish FishCakes'
