First Direct, like all HSBC products, are assessed using BOTH your external credit data and internal behaviour scores. So say you bank with them and then after a few months want an overdraft or credit card, the first thing they do is look at behaviour score which says whether you're eligible to apply. If so, they run an application which includes a CRA check and score. If you fail this they can override it using behavioural scores but only if you just miss the pass score - they will always search you regardless of what you apply for.....

    See this: First Direct

I can get a personal loan but can't get a bank account with no credit facility? Seems like their system is flawed.

Your appeal template thread, can that be used for bank accounts or is it purely for credit cards?

I applied at the weekend to upgrade my Northern Bank basic account so should hear back about that in the next day or two, I really just want a full Visa Debit card. My Maestro card is nice and all but looks rather unappealing and is unembossed. Also, some sites have stopped accepting Maestro.

You have to reside in Ireland to get a Northern account don't you mate? Are they harsh scorers, have you tried in the past?

By the way, did you see if BoC searched you, if so - where? I only order paper reports so cannot confirm for a few weeks yet :p

Of course it works for bank accounts, just change the bits to suit.... its more a template to get you started, obviously you need to sell yourself first and foremost - the rest is irrelevant mate.

natwest gave you a loan but not a bank account? :o

I cancelled my subscriptions to the CRAs a while back. Trying to save the pennies.

You have to be a resident of NI to initially apply for one of their accounts but as I am a customer and I live in Birmingham now, I just sign in with my user ID and it fills in all the data. I haven't tried in the past so no idea how harsh they are. Was told I would find out in 2 days which, as I applied over the weekend, would make today the day.

I'm excited I may get something from Il Banco De Cyprio today. Looks like my £10 has gone into the correct account otherwise I would have been called. Wouldn't I?
As far as I can tell my tenner hasn't been returned to Halifax yet so that's a start, there is still hope! But I get the feeling they won't do anything either way until I can print my ID though . I'll go and try my card in a bit, but I doubt it'll work because I only went to get it fixed at 7 last night (gotta go to Library to get it logged, which is open late) but the people who actually fix it are on normal hours rather than library hours I assume!

The race is on, who gets the account is the question....but who gets it first will be even funnier. I think I'm a pretty big outsider at 100000/1 thanks to my card being screwed!!! I'd laugh if I got it without student verification:rotfl: Suppose there is a small chance they might just process it without if I meet the other critera, but I doubt it... I doubt I'll even get it as Student....
