wannabe wrote:I know this sounds really pathetic but I realise that when I got married I threw myself into the realtionship and as many people do lost track of friends etc. Now my marriage is really rocky and I realise I really need some girlie friends to chat to. I was thinking of the classifieds or chat rooms but I have no idea what to do and am a little scared of who I might be chatting to or meeting. Has anyone tried any or can anyone recommend any that are safe?
Thanks

Snap thankyou that sounds really good and thanks to everyone on here as well .I love chatting to all of you and finding out what you have been up to. I truly do not feel as lonely. Of course I still want some special friends to chat to over coffee or a class or two of vino (mind the cake sounds good too)but I am seeing you all as 'friends' hope thats ok.
Roversbabe I hope that you are feeling a little better with all of us and I know that some people finds some great aquaitances through mother and toddler groups I hope you do.
Urban spirit - thanks I will try it but maybe the head is just not ready yet
Miroslav - hope the birthday was good in the end, do you want some belly dancing moves to wear off the cake - ha ha
Careful girl - you are a strong cookie, when some men get down it seems almost imposible to pick them up, you're fab!
Mushy - any houses yet?
I am saving the pennies for the shopping trip and remember all are welcome - please help me celebrate birthday
love to all, pretend the sun is shining and there is not a cloud in sight

I'm a bit late in replying to this, but I had a similar problem when we moved here, only knew 1 local person and that was it. I joined a local scrapbooking club which has got me out meeting more people.
I'd say find yourself a hobby that involves getting out of the house and socialising, not only will you make new friends but it will give you something to take your mind off things as well.
Good luck0 -

Am I being really thick (yep I am a true blonde) but what is a scrapbooking club?????
Thanks0 -
Sorry!
It may just be a thing that's popular over here, it's just basically you keep a scrap book of special items, photos etc. and do nice layouts. Our local town has a club and they meet four times a year and have a day just doing scrapbooking and catching up with each other.
Hang on, will do a search and see if I can find something to explain it easier...0 -
Here you go some layouts here to give you a better idea http://scrapbooking.about.com/od/layouts/ig/Same-Supplies-Challenge-9/Jen-s-Layout-Double-Spread.htm
And a definition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapbooking
I'm sure there are other hobbies other than crafty ones as well, if you're not a crafty person. Must admit I wasnt really before but it gets addictive! I even make my own cards now!0 -
urban_spirit wrote:Nope, its the same here Thriftylady but that wont stop me. I've got my eye on a huge shrub to shelter a bit under, put my wellies and waterproofs on and go for it!
I know this is from ages ago (I wasn't on the computer last night to see everyones posts) but I just wanted to say that I am so impressed by this meditation thing Urban Spirit, you must really have it sussed to be able to clear your mind in that sort of weather, with the possible distraction of being blown away at any time !
Do you find meditation is a skill you have to acquire? Like other posters mentioned, any time I try to calm my mind there is always something jumping round in there annoying me, I'd love to be able to tame my mind, even temporarily....0 -
Good Morning Friends
I wasn't on lastnight - it was WW night (lost a pound - not exactly a lot but int he right direction) and my Mum stays over on a Wednesday and we eat something nice and get tipsy. She seems to be getting over the 'I'm so worried about you being lonely (which makes me feel lonely even if I wasn't previously !) and is now on the road to recovery post break-up.
My Gumtree pal is gagging for us to meet up and have a night out but I'm feeling a bit apprehensive - brief reason why to follow :
Two years ago met up with a 'social group' went out a couple of times, round to theirs etc - didn't really click but persevered .... after a while they revealed that they were setting up an escort agency and did I want to join them - said it was just for company , no sex and would get a nice dinner - told them if I wanted a nice dinner I could afford to buy it myself and made a sharp exit but I felt really let down by them.
Someone give me a kick please - she sounds lovely , we have a lot of the same interests and like the same haunts etc etc .
"I also used to sit regularly on the main road to a fire station so you learn to zone the sirens out."
Sorry Spirit - you really made me laugh , have visions of you sat cross legged in the middle of the main road with fire engines screaming past.
Miroslav - just to say I have no lesbian tendencies *honest* but I had a major crush on Britney in the sometimes video
Careful girl - I have been in a similar position with my bruv - I had to give up pointing out job opportunities as he was always so negative but he has settled into something which doesn't equate to his qualifications but at least he is working . Maybe it's time for some tough love ??
Big love to you all - best do some w*rk before they fire me , mind-you only 7.5 working days until I leave ....0 -
Morning all.
Hope people managed to get some sleep, I didnt get much.
One of our young people decided to smear all over the place late last night. If you have worked with challenging behaviour the term smear will be a common one. For those that are not certain imagine warm, squidgy, brown stuff spread about a bit. Some of them can make a little bit go a lo......ng way.
I use the bath as a way to switch off and drift too is that meditating urban?
Not asleep but not totally consious (sp?).
Heaven to me is an empty house, coffee, hot bath and a book.
Like fantasy but couldnt get in to Eddings, my soon to be ex has read them all, I like Prattchett. Its the long unpronouncable names they give the characters that annoy me. Plus tend to be a bit of a scan reader so miss bits of the plot.
Hope everyone is well and feeling better now we know we are not the only ones going through the mill a bit. A problem shared is a problem halfed so they say.
The soon to be ex had a hernia repair op yesterday, it was really hard to not text and make sure he was alright. There is no connection between us now other than what is on paper, (the house and the marriage certificate).
Go out man hunting:cool:
Now that sounds like an ideaOnly want one thing at the mo though:p
Sorry post is a bit long trying to catch up with you all.

Ukbadger ~ Go meet her, I'm sure you'll have a great time and better to regret it than wonder what could have been. She could turn out to be your new best friend! At least you have a great story to tell about the escort agency
when you're out for dinner with friends you've yet to meet!
I would advise tough love too CG ~ he has to get out there and do something. You know that but you need to make sure he knows it too! Good luck x
Oh Whatamess ~ sounds like a great nightat least its over for now. I had a really difficult time separating from my ex ~ it took me a long time to finally get up the courage to split and then took courage not to contact him everytime I felt worried or concerned about him. You need to look after yourself, he's an adult and will survive without you, he did before you met.
Before you go out man-hunting ~ just have some funyou deserve it
