You can always chat to me too :) my email is here somewhere and there's always pm's.

I did exactly the same thing when I got married. I was quite young and once I had children it was difficult to keep up friendships with people who wanted to go clubbing etc. I now have friends through work and my partner but it is difficult I find to make friends.....

    Good luck :)

I was thinking about joining some clubs/gym. I went to the gym the other day but do you find that most people are a little scary there - they are so serious or noone speaks. Mind you I would tone up the iffy bits!
I am a teacher and live in Southampton, it would be lovely now and again to meet someone for a coffee but sometimes a chat over the web is good too, I have really liked this today. I think part of the reason I feel a little lonely is that every night involves planning or marking. I'm not moaning because I know we get long holidays etc I don't socialise with people from work partly because we end up talking school and they are a little clique.

Well...it will sound mad but when I moved to london I made friends by going to a nice looking pub in the afternoon. buying a drink and then making eye contact with interesting looking people..
mostly I met really nice people, and two of them are close friends now!
But some were a little odd..but in that environment theres no real need/obligation to hang around if yuou don't get on, i think..

i met a few of what i call my 'mummy friends' through antenatal yoga classes..i'd reccomed looking for a small class rather than one in a gym as i find gyms are not at all good for meeting people..(maybe when you're sweaty and in small clothes you don't really want to introduce yourelf to someone new..lol)

    Hi Wannabe,

I'm in Bournemouth and I notice from your previous threads that you have asked about bars and stuff over here. Do you get over here often? I am about to go back to work part time but if you wanted to pm me we could get together for a coffee, see if we could get any other mse'ers in the area over too? I missed the meet they did a while ago.

I seem to have met most of my new friends through toddler groups etc, otherwise they are all ex workmates (our company went bust in January).

    Hi Wannabe

So brave to admit this, it's really hard isn't it? Please PM me if you want a chat, or my email is under my user profile if you prefer. I don't find it so diffciult to meet people as to persue friendships with them, I never know how to behave or maintain the conversation! It's taken me 10 years in this area to really put down some roots, and now Hubby is applying for a job 250 miles away.....if we go I'm so scared I'm not going to speak to anyone again for another 10 years:eek::eek::eek:

Maybe see if there is a local book club you could join, I think these are great for getting people talking, church coffee mornings aren't just old biddies ( I was amazed and have made friends with 2 lovely young familes this way) or maybe take an evening class (cookery, another language, feng shu? Spelling maybe in my case!)

Hope this helps & good luck;) Maybe talk to you sometime:o
