Have sent all my letters out, waiting to hear now!
Its unfair when my d/d took me over my overdraft (£100) to 100.50 and they charged me £30 for it, then another £5.00 (life insurance d/d) charged me aother £30.00 for that. However i did call them up and threatened to leave so they refunded one of them.....now gonna get the other!! wohooSainsbury CC - £1597.25 0% 18 mths left £37.57 Per month DD

Anyone out there thinking, "ah, well, I won't bother because everybody else is doing it now..."
AHEM!!!!
BOTHER! It's YOUR money!
And, on an economics note, if the banks get really busy they'll have to employ more people who will earn money which will go back into the economy.

Agree 100% with this post, even a £5 back in YOUR pocket is worth the trouble...go for it!0 -
Of course you should claim it. At the end of the day if you are anything like me, youd give up hope for getting the money back. At the very least write the 2 letters. the templates on the CAG, its not difficult to get your head around, once you sit quietly and trawl through it. If youve sent the two letters ( should cost you £2 in recorded postage) and you dont get the money back. ( Ive had one payout after one letter) then you make a decision whether you can be arsed to take it to court. For one charge I migh not bother, but for one adn a half grand, course. I think its a risk worth taking. And if you look around the CAG and see just how many payouts it is, then you know that the fact is the banks havent paid a bog-standard solicitor for a few days work to defend, theres the only proof I need. Banks can afford the best solicitors in the world and its not "worth their while defending" and you get the brains of the "little guys" showing us how to do it, and everyone is getting thier money back, its is in fact barely any risk whatsoever. You might have to turn up to court, you might lose 150 quid, but chances are , youll get the money back.
No question its the right thing to do. INcidentally for LesD, I do pay for my overdrafts. Very few 0% overdrafts around. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

It's actually in the morning, and very powerful stuff it was too. I think if you go on the BBC website, there's a link to view it, someone posted it earlier to me, but I've lost it0 -

Sure, I'll admit that some people are here as a result of "reckless overspending" (for want of a better phrase) but for many of us, unhappy circumstances and nasty twists in life have got us here.

This is one of the things that really irritates me about this whole reclaim bank charges thing. So people get into problems from time to time, yes happens to all of us but the ONE thing that we should be able to sort out is our bank account - it really doesn't take a genius to do it and stop any potential charges being added in the first place. People use change in circumstances as a excuse for going overdrawn - rubbish; it's laziness or ignorance.
So as the program pointed out last night we have one of the best banking systems in the world which is also free for the majority of us, this will quite possibly end thanks to the laziness or ignorance of the few - thanks a bunch.
I thought the program was the usual media spin and loaded questions - 'You don't like bank charges do you ?' - errrr no !!!0 -

Er? Laziness or ignorance? I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you there, but then you'd expect that from me I suppose wouldn't you.
I for one would be happier paying for an upfront, agreed, transparently costed service charge for the maintainence of my account rather than paying an exhorbitant and not to mention illegal penalty charge for going over my overdraft limit by 50p. One of the points the programme was making last night it that banks are able cover their costs with these charges but not to make a profit on it. We all well know that it does not cost £29.50 to automatically generate one letter, particularly when you factor in the reduced costs of producing these letters in large quantities.Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96

Tootsie Roll,
Again I remind you that this section of MSE is for "MUTUAL SUPPORT" and of course MSE - be nice to all moneysavers.
If we did start getting charged for having bank accounts, then maybe, just maybed we might have control as consumers over whether they choose to act legally or not. Its not us or in fact YOU that determines what the law is.
Im not willing to enter into yet another argument with you. The law says whose right and whos wrong, not you. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
