Martin on Telly/Bank Charges

As I said before, I haven't had to pursue this line (lucky me...) however as I understood it, weren't people writing to claim back unfair charges....even illegal charges by the banks...?
Sorry I don't really understand. But if my analysis is right, then what can the banks do?
Or was that not what the programme was about? (I didn't see it)Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

And what a missed oppurtunity to plug this site with an MSE branded t-shirt!
I agree. I only got my letter from them last week saying how much they have charged me, and I have been away until today. I'll get it posted tomorrow, but I bet I will bre that unlucky one where they draw the line.0 -

I know we were hoping to get at least our first letter in before it happened, so we can be selfish together

I agree with that too. Fair enough, if I have done something wrong within my bank account then fair enough, I agree to a charge, just not stupid amounts.0 -

Boo! Hiss!
:rotfl:
But at the end of the day the banks are making more out of unarranged borrowing interest!
Can you answer a question for me? When someone does get charged for a missed payment how many man hours does it take to process it if you like? I bet it's all automated!

I don't know how much the banks can actually get away with without the law changing. Unlawful charges will still be unlawful tomorrow, so good luck to everyone reclaiming.
I think there will probably be a surge in the next few weeks and then things will settle down again - people do forget, unfortunately.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, IMO. It'll only cost a couple of stamps in the first instance anyway, and that might be enough to nudge them into action. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
good on you all for doing this :j luckly i havent encoured any charges but i wonder if the banks are going to do as martin said on that programme and start charging for the service? if now millions are going to claim dont you think it will back-fire somewhere?0

The bank i work for If someone gose over ther o/d once and hasnt been o/d bin the last 3 months AND its not excessive we wave the charge ....
with regards man hours ....
we have to try and contact the customer by phone to se if we can help ( on the day they go o/d)
then we have to send out a letter asking them to contact us and we try to contact them again.
so i would say possably half to one hr .
depending on the person .
but all charges a the bank i work at are delt with on a person to person basis.Debit was £64k (light bulb Feb 05)
