Well the site seems to be crashing big time. I've been trying to register since last night, and when I finally got through, the activation email never arrived. I then sent an email to the support dept, and have still not received a response.

You may think that it is early days yet, but if you know that your on national telly and your going to get a lot of hits, you prepare for it. Seems that its all good and well harping on about how we can claim back charges around the high streets and then get it on prime tv, but its no good if you can't actually do anything because the site is permanently crashed.

Anyone else finding it hard to get registered (since the tv spot was aired)?

Oh for gods sake Nick, give them a break. Youve got people giving up thier spare time to this issue, no ones getting paid for this AFAIK and the site is barely kerpt running as it recieves very little funding from anywhere. Most sites whove had a massive push on publicity crash, including your carphone warehouse, tescos etc.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    thanks a bunch.

    You're VERY, VERY welcome. :D

Thanks to the ignorance and selfishness of the few, the banking industry has been allowed to get away with acting unlawfully and fleecing the most vulnerable part of the population for years.

This is one of the things that really irritates me about this whole reclaim bank charges thing. The whole "I'm all right Jack" attitude of people who are so short-sighted that they can't ever see themselves be in a situation like this and think that it's only poor money management that gets "the others" into trouble. The self-righteousness of the lucky ones. The sweeping assumptions that if everybody was as careful as they are, nothing could go wrong.
People use change in circumstances as a excuse for going overdrawn - rubbish; it's laziness or ignorance.

Rubbish yourself. You have NO idea what you're talking about. You see fit to insult people you don't know anything about, and sneer at them because you are, not better, no smarter, but LUCKIER.

My only wish for you is that you're never in a position to find out how blisteringly wrong you are.

Well then they shouldn't have gone on tv last night if they weren't prepared. A simple email back saying that there is technical difficulties isn't hard. Or even a notice on the site saying that they are experiencing technical difficulties.

Imagine all the people who watched that program last night and then having to suffer frustration because they can't get on. Not everyone is a member of MSE and are sceptical, and they will also not bother because of this hitch.

As a professional web designer I know that user's patience is very short and peope won't hang around.

It just seems a shame that all the positive talk on the TV last night could be undone by a poor technical backup.

Correction: It gets NO funding at all. The site is purely financed by the 2 forum founders, out of their own pockets, and they changed hosts on Saturday purely to try and cope with yesterday's influx, which cost them a LOT of their own money. Sadly, despite this, we're still experiencing problems.

Nick, for info, since last night, we have registered over 1000 new users. Not that bad going... ;)

    Is it your site?

Because i'm still waiting to activate my registration, I don't have that much free time to devote to stuff like this, so I wanted to get the letters printed off and get the ball rolling asap.

I hope you can understand my frustration.

it really saddens me that there are people who think it is OK to come onto the DFW board and start slating people who are in debt - as has been said by many posters before me - this is a place of mutual support! Most of us readily admit that reckless spending and living beyond our means has led us here, whilst others are definitely victims of circumstance, all of us should be treated with respect. I am lucky in that I have never incurred bank charges, but mainly because when it got to the stage that my overdraft was looking bad, I'd turn to credit cards - much more ignorant/lazy than allowing my bank account to go over by £20 I'd say! As for claiming them back - I can't see how this is benefiting people in debt over people without debt - just that people who are in debt seem to have more energy and more resolve to get back their money so they can pay back their debt... that's the thing I don't understand about people who complain to other users on this site about them being in debt - we're here because we want to pay it back not because we want more!!!
:money: 2007 is the year to clear :money:

    Debt as it stands :eek::
    CC - £3800 @0% til July 07
    Personal Loan - £14,351 (6.4% APR) _pale_

Proud to be dealing with my debts

Not my site, no, I'm one of the moderators, but I'm terribly proud of what these guys are achieving here, and of being part of it, yes.

I do understand your frustration. All mods were on hand last night, geared up to help everyone... I can't get in either, and I am fully aware of how many people might give up if they lose that impetus, and it makes me tear out my hair in despair.

On a separate note, if you don't have "that much time", maybe you should reconsider your moves. You are about to take on a multi-national with unlimited funds, it does take a bit of time to get round the logic and procedure...
  • I think that the people that run the CAG should get a medal, they fund the site and it must take up so much of their time. I for one would like to thank them and when my money comes through I will be making a donation to help the site.

Also I have to say that it is not for us to justify the reason that the charges were made (ie. bad money management or personal cicumstances) that is not the debate. The Point is that these charges are unlawful and should not be charged. Whatever situation led to the charges being added the charges should not be as high as they are.
